Sounds like a problem with the head unit. Where did you get it from? I work with these all the time at BPS, and have hardly ever heard of an issue like yours from that unit. I suggest exchanging it.

Agree you're checking the right stuff. Do start at the source of power at the fuze panel. Be sure all is wired tight there, and then double check the fuze. I had a differnt Humminbird doing the same and it ended up being a fuze that looked okay, but was intermittent.

It sounds to me like its losing power. Might also be losing ground. Perfect check would be to have someone with a similar unit, or atleast one that fits your mount, put that unit on you mount. That would pretty much confirm if its wire/transducer probelms, or just in the head unit itself.

Good point, glad you mentioned that. If the unit is freezing up AND shutting off, or just shutting off, Bob's point is probably spot on. Also, if that doesn't work, some of the units have had problems with the power connection that plugs into the unit itself. Sometimes it isn't a tight fit and the loose connection can have similar results. Humminbird shouldn't give you any grief at replacing that.
