Hey Bugs, how are you doing?

Hey Bugs, today is Tuesday and I know this is the day for the big shoulder operation. I hope you are doing well and that the surgeon corrected the damage there. If the pain is bad go ahead and use those painkillers for a couple of weeks. Then you can go off them but I think initially you need the rest. I think our bodies heal faster when we get lots of rest. Pain is the killer of rest. Well at least it is for me. Prayers sent for a speedy recovery for you. Take care, Margie

Thanks for the prayers. I am bummed out. The Surgery Center called yesterday and changed my surgery time from 11:15 am to 10:30 am. Early this morning they changed it to 10:00 am. I arrived on time and was taken into surgery. They checked my blood pressure and it was too high so four doctors stood around and discussed my case. They made the decision that I should be in the hospital from at least 24 hours before surgery until the day after so they can monitor and treat my blood pressure. Some medical personnel are trying to coordinate my case and make a decision on what to do and when to operate. I believe the b/p problem was caused from stress, fear, and pain. In frustration I announced to the doctors, "This $uck$." There was dead silence and then an older doctor started laughing and said that he had to agree with me.

We arrived back home and Sweetie Pie checked my blood pressure. The systolic pressure had already dropped 40 points. Two hours later it was back down to 131/74. Everything is on hold again and I'm still stuck at "square one."

You are right that majorily su@ks big time! I think it is worse for you to get all psyched up about today and then they postpone it. Its too bad they just didnt admit you today and monitor your BP and do the operation tomorrow. I know my BP would be high for any operation. I dont like hospitals at all. I hope they get a date for you so you dont have to wait too long.

Re: Hey Bugs, how are you doing?

That does stink Bug. I have seen MANY people in the pre-op room get sent home for the same reason. They are not happy either but it is the safe thing to do. After a few of them, it does get easier. I was never sent home and the first couple is the only time my BP elevated any. I have 120/60 low BP to begin with and am not on any medication. When I go into surgery now, they check and recheck and recheck because the worst it has EVER been prior to a surgery was 122/73 and these nurses and doctors seem to think it is not possible. I see them checking the BP machine, getting a different machine and even though I tell them that it is not raised, I am not worried, leave me alone they just can't seem to believe it. Hope you never have as many surgeries as I have but if you will remember one simple thing and try to BELIEVE it, it will help - NO MATTER HOW UPSET OR WORRIED YOU GET, THE OUTCOME OF THE SURGERY WILL BE THE SAME REGARDLESS. The calmer you are the lower your BP is and the easier it will go. Try reading the night before and day of your surgery. Take pictures of you children or family with you and look at them in the pre-op. Have your honey talk about stuff other than the surgery at hand. Once your BP is under control you can ask for some calming medicine and they will put something in your IV that will make you loopy and very relaxed if you like. I had it once and a lot of people get it everytime but I want to be clear headed when they roll me into the operating room. I want to see my surgeon, be clear headed and ask any last minute questions and such with a clear mind so I don't ask for the calming medicine in pre-op, BUT IT IS THERE IF YOU NEED IT. Good Luck and you can ask me anything you want in regards to surgeries. I am a PROFESSIONAL PATIENT and will put my PATIENTING SKILLS up against ANYONE!!!! Now where is my FNF rod, time to go fishing
