    It got away...

So my fiancee wants to go walk in a park tonight that has a community pond. So I figure.. eh I probably wont catch anything but Ill throw it out and see if I cant get a hit. So we get down there and its nothing... no bites.

So I go to a cove like spot with some over hanging trees and cattails on both sides. Throw out a bright red rattle(No. 6 gama hooks). Reeling it in and my lure comes to a dead spot. Next thing I know im fighting some kind of pig... 30 or 40 seconds into the battle Lure pops out of its mouth... Suspense over. Never saw the fish... I think it was a cat (Last time I had a fish fight me like that it was a 9lb 10 oz channel)

I cant imagine the size bass it wouldve been had it really been one... and I just pray it wasnt one lol. I could live losing a cat in 10lb range... not a bass however.

Anyone else got any interesting stories like that?

Matt i would have left out the catfish part and said it was a world record bass lol. i think we have all felt your pain. i broke one off this past weekend, might have been a one pound bass or a ten pound bass. in my mind it was a hog

lol Well, I dont like to exaggerate. Credibility can sometimes be hard to come by with fisherman.

Plus saying it was a catfish makes me feel better about losing it.

I was fishing in Taylorsville Lake in Ky. Throwing a #5 shadrap up on the bank for bass. Made the cast and turned the reel about 3 times and wham...Fish hit like a ton...The fish immediately headed to deep water and and taking line like crazy. I set down to try and turn the fish and my line snaps in a heartbeat..... I use 15 to 20 lb flourocarbon line and constantly re-tie if i even think i got a nick in my line. No idea how big this fish was or wat it was...Jut know it snapped my line like it was a piece of thread....

That reminds me of the Mike Iaconelli video where the line snaps and he jumps out of the boat (Keeping one hand on the boat mind you), grabs the line, climbs back in the boat and pulls the fish in by hand.

That was awefully risky. he would have been DQ'ed for the day if he lost grip of the boat. It wasn't even a big fish.
