Crankin rod

Here's my situation. I bought a Basspro Crankin stick. The 7 1/2 footer. I used this rod about five times and the insert in the lead eye came out. So I exchanged it for the exact same model. So on Saturday 15 minutes into my tournament I get hung on a rock and I'm trying pop it loose and about a foot and a half below the tip the rod snaps clean. Therefore I'm taking it back and not getting another one. I need a good crankin rod for heavy cranks. DD22, Bomber bd7 and Strike King series 6xd that type of crank. I would prefer a rod over 7 foot. What are some of the rods you guys use and have had great luck with?

Shimano has a 7'11" that is perfect for those baits. It also has a lifetime over the counter warranty.

I use the B&R Outlaw rod crankin model! I love it and sensitive as heck, great backbone

the new Gloomis Deep Flex 7'2" MH is what I use for Deep cranks and it is Saaweeet!

Bigrod, do you own one of these rods. I have not held one of Crucial 7'11" rods. The Bass Pro crankin rod was the only rod in my boat that is not a Shimano rod. I probably should have stuck with Shimano but the BP rod felt pretty good. I have learned my lesson.

I use a fenwick elite crankshaft. It is a 50/50 rod. The tip half is all fiberglass, and the bottom half is graphite. It is the perfect rod for deep cranking. I tried out about all of them over the course of a year trying to find one that I liked for just deep divers. They are a little pricey, but worth every penny if you plan on tossing dd22's often.

The KVD CB rods are great...i have one of the 7'10 models called the "launcher" and love it!!!!!!!!!! $150-ish

I've had several of the BPS crankin' sticks without issue - used one this past weekend as a matter of fact. Sounds like the quality is starting to slip a little bit.

I like the Quantum Paul Elias Signature rod - got it on a sweet deal, and would love to have another, but it will take another sweet deal for me to afford it.

Instead, my next purchase will be the American Rodsmiths David Fritts Signature Series Crankin’ Rods at BPS - it has great reviews, and from I've seen and heard of them, it's a good rod for your DD22s and DT16s. Goes for around $100, but goes on sale about once a year for about $20 less...going to hold out for that.

Also have the Berkley Bionix Crankbait rod - got it on sale at Wal-Mart for $20. I really like it for deep crankin, but the reel seat is too big, only reel I could get to fit in it tightly is a Citica. Great rod, but limited on what reel you can use. I think the rod has been replaced by the Tactix series now, and has a better reel seat. But for $20, you can't beat it! Might still be able to find a few leftovers at Wal-Mart.

Yes I do have the Crucial crankbait rods and they are sweet. I will give you my second choice and reiterate what someone above here said and those KVD cranking rods are great also, only thing is I would stick with the Shimano based soley on lifetime over counter warranty anywhere you are at.

Buy Lifetime over the counter rods, and if you travel fishing FLW, BFL or whever, make sure its a brand you can find about anywhere! Twice!! I have broken a rod out of town, once on Potomic River, and once on Lake Erie, both times I walked into the nearest tackle shop, and walked out with a new rod. I'm partial to the Crucials, I've broken one Crucial, and it was a factory defect, you wont break one trying to get a jig loose from a rock, and you wont break one casting a heavy crank.

Well I order the 7'11" Crucial today. I really went back forth between the KVD and the Crucial rod. I still have not held one of the Crucials in my hand but I'm not worried. The lifetime warranty is what put the Crucial over the top. I'm ready to unleash a big crank and see what it will do.
