I have a 2002 mercury 200efi on my boat and the beeper has been going off. It is a solid tone. It is getting oil and is holding good water pressure and is putting out a good stream. I put a new water pump on it last summer. When the beeper sounds you can turn it off for about a minute and start it up and the beeper will be off and it usually will not sound for the rest of the day. Has anyone encountered this problem before or does anyone have any clue what it could be? Thank you for any info!

Hey Softcraw,
The continuous beep is overheating. Intermittent beeping is oil. You could actually be overheating or you could have a bad sensor. The heat sensors are mounted on the powerhead and do go bad occassionally. Any of these problems can be checked out by a good mechanic. You really want to get this checked out though, could be serious in the case of overheating or it could be just a bad sensor (best case). I had an intermittent beep on mine, got out the shop manual and studied. Finally found a small tear in my oil line from the main tank. Replaced the line, problem solved. Had a friend who chose to ignore his sensors and well let me say this, he ended up buying a new Optimax.
Later and good fishing,
