    Fishing.Com Boundary Waters Trip......

    Hey.........Would any of you guys be interested in putting a trip together for next year.

    Details:

    * BWCA Trip not Quetico
    * Last week of May/First week of June.
    * Limited to 8 guys.
    * 11 days total. Leave on Thursday be back a week from Sunday.
    * 8 Days of FISHING.
    * $100.00 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit required

    I'm not saying I'd do this, but if there is interest, I'd DEFINITELY seriously think about it.

    The problem is...........once you say you're in, you really NEED to be in, unless something very serious came up. It is way too hard to try to back fill someone, and if 1 person is out, it really means 2 people are out.

    Let me know.......

    Later,

    Geo

    I would so be into this, it's just too long though for me. It's very hard for me to get away for that length of time during that time of year.

    Very good thought though George, I bet you get some serious interest in this.......

    It's a pretty rugged trip that I'd love to take one day. I've got some buddies that do it every yr. It can be tough, but they love it.

    As far as it being rugged, it's as rugged as you want it to be. The only "IFS" in that statement is the weather, it can be unpredictable but as long as you plan for the worst you are good. George has been going up for many years and is very knowledgeable about the Boundary Waters, you guys would be in good hands.

    Alot of people do loops where they pack and unpack every day, travel great distances, portage a couple of times a day, ect. We base camp because our primary reason to go is for the fishing. We select a comfortable camping site take in coolers of food, cots, ect. One of the men I go with is 70 years old and two are in their sixties they handle it like champs. We travel out from base camp early in the morning and travel anywhere from 1/2 mile to 10 miles in a day fishing and exploring. It's a wonderful place the only problem is that once you go you'll keep returning. I went on my "once in a lifetime" trip 5 years ago and have been back every year without fail.

    That being said, I'd love to go with you guys but my wife would have my head if I went twice in a year.

    I will offer up my canoe if you guys need it. It might save you some money if you have to rent. She's a time tested aluminum Grumman but will be liscensed and ready to go. If you guys want to borrow her I'll even fix the duct tape patch that's held for the past 3 years... George, if you need her just PM me. Ted

    I would love to do it, but wish the plans were for a week later. I am usually still teaching the last week of may - and if it is a crappy winter sometimes that extends a week or so. George and I have talked about it before, and it is something I would love to do. I have most of the gear I need - so once you all get set on a date let me know, and I will see if I can do it.

    I'd at least consider it. That's a bit longer of a trip than I think I could swing.

    It is DEFINITELY a rugged trip......the CHEAP trip I'm talking about is a Canoe/Camping trip. Basically you're IN IT. There are other trips that are also available, but those go up in cost quite a bit....

    I figure I will start seriously trying to put something together around november for next May or June.

    We can work out the dates and length......I usually take Thurs and Friday before off, but we could leave on a Friday night after work drive all day sat and put in on sunday.....pull off on friday be home Late saturday. All kinds of options. I don't want someone to go just because of length of the trip, etc, etc.

    Onemorecast, probably not the Ely area. The BWCA seems to be less crowded on the EAST end........AND I have some great areas over there to help people find fish. I've not done a BWCA trip through Ely..but I have done a TON of Quetico trips through Ely.

    I'd LOVE to get a bunch of guys from the board up there.........COL, Know, MHall, Tim_T, APB.....

    ANYONE is welcome.........the only thing is it would be limited to 8......

    Later,

    Geo

    I had to cancel going with my daughter this year just for that reason. She's an honor student, and could not be out for a week, otherwise I would have taken her anyways.

    She has been on the past 5 trips with me, and LOVES going.

    This years trip will be the first "robo" fishing trip I've done in 5 years. With my daughter, we usually fish 5-6 hours a day max. With the "guys" it is nothing to cover 10-15 miles a day and fish 12-16 hrs......SUN up/SUN DOWN.

    Man, I CANNOT wait.

    BTW.....for anyone interested......here is a link to my BWCA/QUETICO website

    One other thing.............

    You can go in the Spring or the Fall. I've had pretty decent fishing in the fall, but nothing like in the spring. In the Fall, I've never had a 100 fish day, but we have had 50-60 fish days.

    Spring, you risk lots of rains and bugs.....tradeoff 100+ fish a day........

    Fall....WAY BETTER WEATHER.......no bug.......tradeoff 20-50 fish a day, with 60-70 being a FANTASTIC DAY.........and rare.

    I've been both times of the year...........my trips usually go something like this. 1 trip EVERY year, and an additional fall trip every other year.

    Next year will be a year I can do a spring and fall trip......and I might do both. Actually my daughter graduates next year from HS, so the spring trip might be a little later, or it might end up being a fall trip.
