I have a Quantum Escalade; they are okay. It starts breaking down after about a year. For the purpose you are using it; I would say you are okay. For cranking; its not really that durable.

Curios why you would need a 6-1 or better for jigs and plastics? I can understand for buzzbaits or some type of cranking

I like the curado for jigs and plastics. I like a 7:1 reel, especially for jigs. While fishing the lure, I basically just use the reel for taking up slack. But once I am out of the strike zone, I can zip it back in and toss it back out and get it in the sweet spot, much quicker than a slower reel.

When flipping, quicker to horse the fish out of cover. Like Col said- to take up slack. Cranking I prefer from 4-7 to 5-6 and crank it up if need to.

ardent 600 for casting ardent 500 for flippin they made 100% in the USA. on ebay 500 goes for 120-135. the 600 goes fr 140-160.

In my opinion, Ardent reels are the best on the market. You will never find a smoother better casting reel!

I'll take Abu, Quantum, Daiwa, Shimano, Lews, Ardent, BPS, Cabelas, and etc reels ANY DAY. I'll say it again they're all good. Just choose a right gear ratio and spool size to your application then your good to go.

You did not provide us a price range or a lure weight on what you want to throw. As all purpose reels, the E7 curado is very difficult to beat. It does everything well.

As an all purpose benchmark, I believe the new Revo Premier 2010 model is the the ticket. At less then 7oz with full line capacity this reel really performs well and is ergonmically great.

I've not given up on my Shimano reels but the new Abu premier has certainly made a few Shiman's move aside.

by the way, you can buy a E7 delivered on ebay any day of the week from great sellers for $!48.

I have a couple of different brands but my Quantum Energy PT get the most use. I also have the Accurist PT 501 (left handed reel) for P/F. It's a 6:1 ratio. Seems to work fine. I haven't invested in the Tour Edition reel yet and don't know if I will. Don't get me wrong I would love to have one but the Energy can handle anything you can throw at it and never gives me any trouble. Like a few have said E-bay is the way to go as far as buying reels in my opinion. I got the Accurist for around 50 shipped, and a coulpe of my Energys for about 100 shipped. Other brands I'm sure will do the job but for me I think I'll stick with Quantum. DJ
