The only problem with eBay is that you never know what you're going to get if you purchase from a non-dealer. If you're going the eBay route, make sure you purchase from a seller/dealer with a high and positive feedback rating. Try to steer clear of anyone just selling reels outright. Most of the time, "new" reels are actually used. Cosmetically, they may appear new until you take them out and they're noisy and don't perform the way a new reel should. Just my two cents.

By the way, (like someone else noted previously) what is your price range and is there a particular brand name you are trying to stay with?

I personally would recommend anything Shimano makes, as long it is a Curado or better model. The bearing count in Citicas are too low, although many guys on here recommend them. Curados, Chronarchs, Cores, and Calais are some of the finest reels I have ever had the pleasure to fish with. I have basically owned everything Shimano has ever made -- spinning and baitcasting. Depending on what applications you are fishing, there is something in every line that will suit your needs. They are pricey, but I am a firm believer in "You get what you pay for."

Also, the Daiwa Steez is a tough reel to beat in terms of quality and performance. A few of them have recently been sneaking into my fishing equipment arsenal. The Zillions are great reels as well, but don't match up with the Steez in my opinion.

One more thing, I would put my Shimanos and Daiwas up against any other make of reel. I would guarantee that a Shimano or Daiwa will stand the test of time, abuse, and durability better than any other reel on the market. If you want something to last long, spend the extra $$$. It will be worth it in the long run and will pay for itself on down the road.
