I ask this same question a while back, and got the same answers you are getting. So I took everyones advice and narrowed it down to a curado and a revo. I went with the curado, to my I liked the way it felt in hand better than the revo. I dont think you could go wrong with either one. If you want a great reel for 80 bucks BPS has the pro qualifer on sale. I bought one of these last year and it is very nice, for the money nothing can touch it. Hope this helps, good luck.

    Re: What kind of reels

I've used Quantums and the Curado, I'd take the Curado if I had 180 to spend.

With that said, anybody seen the Quantum Escalade that ****'s has? They are $59.99 down from $79.99. Anybody have an opinion on them? I'm looking for one to put 50 lb brain on for pitching into cover and I like my Curado too much for that. What about the Diawa Megaforce? You can get it for the same price.

    Thanks, Ted

    Quantum Escalade

I have a Quantum Escalade; they are okay. It starts breaking down after about a year. For the purpose you are using it; I would say you are okay. For cranking; its not really that durable.

It's worth $59.99. With $10 off on $50 you will be getting it for $49.99; if you have one of those coupons. If you are on their mailing list; it is in the latest magazine. They always run these at $59.99.

Les any brand will work but make sure to get least 6-1 Gear Ratio baitcasters for jigs, spinnerbaits and plastics.

Curios why you would need a 6-1 or better for jigs and plastics? I can understand for buzzbaits or some type of cranking

    Re: What kind of reels

I like the curado for jigs and plastics. I like a 7:1 reel, especially for jigs. While fishing the lure, I basically just use the reel for taking up slack. But once I am out of the strike zone, I can zip it back in and toss it back out and get it in the sweet spot, much quicker than a slower reel.

When flipping, quicker to horse the fish out of cover. Like Col said- to take up slack. Cranking I prefer from 4-7 to 5-6 and crank it up if need to.
