    Re: Kentucky Snakes

You just never know what you may encounter in the wild. Several years ago I was fishing in Conoloway Creek on Nolin, using a T-rigged worm in shallow water. After a slow retrive I started bringing it back and got a real hard hit. I set the hook and when I did a snake came out of the water. It didn't have the spade head, or cresent eys but the body was red with black, almost sawtooth, bands. I had never seen one like it before and I didn't think it was poisenous but I cut the line anyhow and it swim away.

when I got home, I tried to find out what it was by doing a search on the computer. In the process of trying to indentify the snake, I had a flashback to Viet Nam, but that is a different story. Anyhow, I finally found out that it was a Susquehanna Water Snake, usually only found in Pennsylvania. Don't ask me how it got to Nolin, but the point is you never know what you may run accross. Somone probably brought it here and let it loose. who knows?

That is how I happened to know about the pamphlet.

Lmao!!! Been there man. I love snakes and won't kill one but I'll catch em if I can. Caught a rat snake last year and let my daughter hold it for a second but it eventually moved too much so she got a little skeert so I took it back.
Now if you want to get my full 100% attention get me around a spider. I'll kill that heartless thing in a heart beat!!!

You want scared--knock over some sandbags, right next to where you have been sleeping, and see a big nest of six inch, hairy, scorpians crawl all over your cot.

No problem, when you/we are talking about snakes and crawly things the thread can lead anywhere.

I'm one of the few who can walk on water....I'll tell you why. We were canoeing on the little Econlockhatchee (say that one right the first time lol) in central florida and we were goofing around paddling down the river looking at gators on the bank. We flipped the canoe and our stuff was floating away so I picked it up as I ran past it on my way to the bank!

I was so scared and never felt that helpless in the water.

I'm with you on the snakes and spiders,I'll let most snakes alone, but hardly any spiders. Was bit once on the hand digging for leeches on a shore line, that spider was huge, my hand sweeled up to size of a catchers mitt.Hornets, hate em, red wasps, tolerate then they eat spiders. Yellow jackets, alergic, shoild carry and epi pen, but would probably forget it, like my nitro, which I have no idea of where its at. Lived in Utah for alittle while, was warned about side winders. Took basic in colorado, full of side winders. But in the last few trips to dale didn't even see any water snakes, did see one huge beaver.About side arms, I now carry one most times I am walking my dog, its leashed, but there are a few around here that are not, I'll say now I'll shoot to warn, but if try to attack my companions life saving pet, its another story.
