    Re: 20Lb. BPS EXCEL Line

I have used excel in 20lb several times. I think it has a lot of stretch but performed o.k. for the price. I will still spend a little more and go with p-line cx or fluroclear depending on the application.

I to have experianced that problem with a particular line I have use for years. Last year I lost more fish from broken line than I care to write about. Thinking a bad batch of line was not out of the question. My problem, however I feel was my eyes on my rod had developed grooves from all the casting and years of use. Hate to retire favorite rod, but not had a problem since.

switched to P-line a few years ago from trilene, extremely durable, extremely abrasion resistant and you can pull a skier with 20 lbs test. the only problem is it does have a little more memory than the other lines, but overall the toughest line ive ever used. i know my bad batch is probably coming but i havent found it yet.

What knot are you using? I use Excel most of the time, for years! I have problems with the 6 and 8 lbs sometimes, mainly because I set the hook too hard. But I can assure you, I only go as far as 17 lbs on my striper trips and I've not lost a bait in years. I can count on one hand how many I've broken on a hookset flippin bushes with it in the past couple years. I use a simple palomar knot, just make sure its wet before you cinch it down. Bad batch of 20 lbs two times is hard to beleive, but possible I guess.

2 years ago I went to a fishing show at sportsman warehouse. They had a knot tying machine there to test knots. The old fishermans knot outperformed the polamer knot everytime.. Maybe something to think about trying.. I tie both.
