    Re: El Salto

smljaw if you don't mind me asking, how much do you guys have in one of these trips after it is all said and done?? Count everything, beer, food, cigars, you name it, what does it cost. This is my dream bass trip, I have to do this before I die. Hopefully I can get the wife to go therefore justifying the bills to do this, lol.

A lot of the total cost depends on the flight you book, what time of year you go, whether or not you already have a passport, etc. I ended up getting my flight this year for under $400! That's round trip from Lexington to Mazatlan with one stop in Houston. I'll fly out of Lexington in the morning and be fishing El Salto later that day. How cool is that!

    Total cost ranges $2800 - $3400.

Here's some text from an email I received today. The guy who sent it just got back this past Sunday. I think he was down there for 10-14 days... Check this out...

My biggest fish went 12 1/2 pounds, with 2 over 10 and 5 over 9 and 17 over
8 pounds. Lots of small fish if you want to fish for them, we did not fish
for small fish as we wanted big fish and not #'s.

He said he caught most on 3/4 - 1 oz jigs, chatterbaits, ricos and swimbaits.

mhall, this is an awesome trip! And it's not just the fishing. The staff is amazing and they take care of you like you wouldn't believe. The food and service is top shelf! Save up some dough and go. You won't be disappointed.

Arrive in Mazatlan and it's a 90 minute drive by van to the lake/lodge. You are met by staff when you arrive with food and drink of choice. At that point it's eat, sleep and fish until you leave. The food and service is first class. The rooms and lodge grounds are clean and safe. Also, for a fee, you can get the best message you've ever had!

Littleky, I'll be back in KY about 36 hrs before you leave. Call me on the 15th and I'll give you a fresh report. Also call me before I leave if you have any questions.

Basic bait pack list should include:
Big jigs (use large craw trailers or Power Worms for trailers)
    Variety of swimbaits
8" lizards and 10" worms (black w/ blue tail, blue fleck and watermelon varieties are money!)
    Chatterbaits in bluebill pattern
    3/4 - 1 oz white/chart. spinnerbaits
    3/4 oz. chrome/blue Rat L Traps
    Pop-Rs or Ricos in white
15-20' diver crankbaits in citrus color
Good rod selection and spool reels with 14-25... Feel free to go with braid too.

Don't forget the sunscreen. It's some kind of hot down there in June!
