I fish Malone all the time...the fish should be in the grass at night when you go down. Any bait you can fish good through the grass will be good. Hard to beat a good black spinner bait. If I were you I would go to KY or Barkley. Fishing is getting so bad at Malone it is not even funny. If I am in town I could drive over to the lake and meet you or put you in my boat and show you some key places to fish in the summer...Malone is a have to know it type lake. There is areas of underwater structure that holds fish but other than that most people pound the banks. Depending on when you are fishing makes a big difference on where to fish at times due to lake traffic. The main lake that is ski are is almost not fishable during the main part of the day from 10-7 due to water traffic. Some areas of the lake are starting to get well known by everybody so they are not real secret spots anymore. Main thing is underwater rocks and sloping areas. You will find a deep crank bait, jig, and plastics to be your best baits for the most part. The lake is hammered with local fishing tournaments any more few days a week and seems to be a lack of overall fish numbers. Size tends to be good though besides the few short fish you will catch to the one or two decent fish. While you are around you should check out a little lake in Dawson Springs not far from Malone. http://fw.ky.gov/pdf/lakebeshear.pdf
I think if you like Malone size and lay out you will like Beshear even more.
Turkey we never fished at night but from input sounds like we better take the blacklights just in case. We love the scenery and lay out of this lake and usually catch/release a few decent fish. We usually fish the grass area around shady cliff area and head the main creek to the main lake points. I think were going to try around the state ramp area and sherwood point from what i've read of past posts. Thanks for the heads up we'll be down there the week after next ready to set the hook!!!
