I was planning on booking a trip with a fellow Cornhusker Clayton Oxford of hollarwoodguide.com, but I'm not totally comfortable with him from email exchanges. Has anyone gone out with him or can somebody reccomend a guide service.

Clayton is a very good Striper fisherman and works very hard for his clients. Please send me a PM about you're concerns.

Lower portion of the lake is best, usually from Wolf Creek to the dam. Main lake to front half of the creeks. As for technique, I would say live trolling live shad/shiners/alewives would be hard to beat.

I've limited out every day I've fished this month by 9:00 am and haven't been anywhere near the lower portion of the lake. You can see pics at www.conleystriper.com. I'm not trying to start an argument, but the myth that you have to go to the lower end to catch stripers in just not true.

Thats good enough for me. So there is still hope for the rest of us??? But I do fish the lower end, launch out of Halcombs...sorry, but have not been out on the lake fishing for stripers for about 6 weeks now, time to get the boat wet....

Pretty well over, if it ever really got started this year, lol. You can just about Bank on a May flood anymore, I think three years in a row now, it's put the Kabosh on the good night bite in my humble opinion.

Clayton is one of the best bottom fishing guides there is. He'll troll if he can't get em bottom fishing. When are you looking to book him? If its a little later in the year, he'll be mixed right in the same areas as any of the other great guides that are out there.

I was on the lower end last weekend June 5 and 6 in the mouths. Fish were hitting 16 feet down in 20-30 feet of water and also caught one in 100 feet of water on a ballon with the sinker at 12'. Maybe hitting a little deeper too but I did hot try deeper. Some nice fish too. I was not disappointed with catching the small fish but did catch a few 16" inchers but they put up a pretty good fight right now--guess it is something to do with spawning. There are some updated reports from guides in the fishing report section of this site if you are interested.

Clayton can put you on the fish. Also, if you don't want the catch 2 and quit you may have better luck with him because you can pick up all kinds of nice "incidentals" bottom fishing like walleye, black bass, crappie, cats, etc. He fishes out of a very roomy and comfortable boat too.

I was down at lake on 6/4, 6/5/, and 6/6. Fishing was very good, easy catching bait and they seem to stay alive on the hook. I did not fish on 6/5 because of the kids trout derby, but the other two days were excellent. I only caught one fish at 12 feet and the rest came at 25 feet. I wasfishing around the mouth of Beaver in 90 to 100 feet of water.

How Do you catch your bait? Do you use a light at night and cast net them or do you just troll around cast netting

I typically find shallow water (60 feet) next to the river channel or creek channel and throw out a light and wait about hour or so.
