'79 Gulf Oil Spill

The BP spill in the Gulf is almost a mirrored incident like the one that occurred in 1979 through Pemex's Itoc well. Pemex is Mexico's state owned oil company and the spill was also in the Gulf of Mexico. The main difference is that it was a shallow water rig 150 feet deep. This is what the Associated Press reported on similarities to the BP well.
