Barren Report???

Just got back yesterday... thought i would update you guys... i fished from twilight til about 9 am sat and sun morning.... caught a short one sat morning on a buzzbait on a flooded tree on a point near the creek channel... then sunday morning the only fish i even saw took a swing and a miss at my buzzbait in the flooded trees at teh narrows...

in the mornings the fish were busting shad everywhere... later in the day you could still see gar hittin the surface a lot... i didnt catch anything else... there was tourney goin on sat morning seems every boat i saw was fishing shallow points with flooded timber and saw a few of em hoisting in fish, but have no idea what they were fishing with cuz i fished the same areas and came up empty...

surface temps were in the mid 80's, and the water was heavy stained in backs of coves but upwards of 4 ft visibilty out in the main creek channel on skaggs creek... The fishfinder i was using blows, but i never saw anything that i coul dsay was 100% a fish and not just a flooded bush...

seriously where are these fish and how do you catch em???

State park ramp was open when i went by on Saturday. Too hot to fish. just picking up some boat parts from 31-E Marine and working the dog on some bumpers in the flooded fields up Peter Creek. Water water everywhere.

yeah, went by beaver creek ramp on teh water... it appeared to be open with some safety bouys to keep people from hittin that huge rock by teh ramp...

Spoke with the COE today, Monday, and they told me that all the ramps were now open except Port Oliver and Peninsula. They may only have one lane open, but they can be used. Port Oliver (the newest ramp) appears to still be mostly under water. Good luck.

I fished it Saturday and launched at Walnut Creek. I used to fish that area with my Dad a long, long time ago. I've been fishing saltwater alot for the last 6 or so years and just bought a boat for the flats. Brought it back up here and headed out Sat. a.m. We headed south and went under the Walnut Creek Road bridge and started working that area and coves. We threw topwater and were catching a few small Bass. We worked the small coves and flooded timber. Seemed like the fish we caught were in 12-14' of water and the water is still way up of course. This was the best fish of the day. He rocketed straight out from a tree and hit a Strike King Red Eye Shad..... My buddy said he was on bed based on what his tail looked like....


Glad I found this site... I've got a lot to learn about Bass Fishing....

Good color on that bass. I think that the water being up will actually help barren in the long (as far as fish go) run.

I am afraid however that becuase the trees along the banks are dieing that we will end up with more bank erosion and for a while more turbidity in the water than usually.

i know its no Florida water, but could the tanic acid be higher with all this dying and rottin vegetation?
