There were a couple questions about this part of the river, so here are further details on my trip. I put in at Bells Mill, about 3/4 miles east of Preston. There is a business and home at the bridge. I always ask when I put in and they have been very nice, always allowing me to drag my yak through to the river. At 7am, I figured they'd rather I not wake them, so I just had my wife drop us off and we scooted down to the water... The trip from there to Shepherdsville is 9 miles. About 8 hours. The first half is best. The last 4 miles the riffles end and the current is pretty slack. I took out at mile 7, which is at highway 44. It was not fun dragging kayaks up the hill to the road, but better than going 2 more miles on the river. I'd go soon while the water level is still high enough. They just put in a boat ramp in sheperdsville, so it's easy to take out there. Take some night crawlers, and when the water gets slack, the catfish are fun to fish for. Tons of them in the river. I fished from Bardstown rd to Bells Mill. Make sure you start really early!!! Its a long trip. Great water though.
