I have never fished a Carolina Rig in my life. I have seen enough to know how to rig one, but thats about as far as it goes... how much weight should i use? How do you work em? Where do you work em? What kind of plastics are best???
Is a 6'6" MH rod good enough for this technique?

Work them slow in extreme hot and cold conditions. I always use a lizard or brush hog, but other plastics can be used.
Most guys will use a "sweeping" motion, keeping the weight in almost constant contact with the bottom. You sweep the rod from one side to the other, dragging the weight along the bottom. Pause, reel in the slack, and repeat.
As far as weight size, use whatever will keep you in contact with the bottom, and is easy for you to throw. The rod you mentioned will work just fine.

Left out a couple things:
Use a 1/2 to 3/4 oz egg sinker, and add a glass bead or two for noise.
Fish points, stump fields, drop-offs, and road beds and you should have some success with the c-rig.
Play around with different weights, hooks, plastics, and leader lengths to dial in what the bass are biting on. I usually use an 18" leader, any more than that is hard for me to cast.

For the weight it depends on how deed you are fishing in general a 3/4oz weight should be sufficient to learn on. Throw it out as far as you can that is why I like to use a heavy 7 foot or better rod and work it back slow try to keep the weight on the bottom by using a slow downward sweep " the slower the better for the most part". Every time you pull the weight over a rock or stump stop the bait. Keep your line tight at all times you will detect more bites that way. I also like to use a slower reel, I use an Abu Garcia round reel with a 5.1:1 ratio. As far as baits go I will C-rig just about any plastic. I would start off by using a lizard or a baby brushhog of some sort. I have caught them on a basstrix swimbait before but until you are comfortable with this technique I would stick with a lizard or a baby brushhog. I like to C-rig on points and ledges but they will work just about anywhere. When you get a bite you will definitely be able to tell.

a 7'6 rod will work better than the the short ones,you will be a little limited as far as leader length,sometimes longer is better, you can use and casting distance with the short ones,plus you'll get a better sweep hookset with a longer.let me know if you need a longer stik,i have one or 2 i may sell.Originally Posted by walkeraviator

I like to use a 7-71/2 ft rod for the reasons states above. 3/4 oz is a good choice to start with but u can always go up or down depending on the conditions. I use braid with a leader of mono. Usually around 14# test. My weight never hits my knot or bead because I use a Carolina keeper to cushion the impact on glass or a weight beating the knot.
You will find it's best to just use lead weights for now cause you should lose some weights.
Rocks and ledges will eat your lunch if you use braid so you might go with a copolymer or something like that.

Could I use a 7'6" flippin stick for this presentation or is heavy/fast too much rod? I will be purchasing this as my next rod and will be using 50lb braid on it... i got 15lb mono that i havent used yet i could use for leaders... does any type plastics float up off the bottom better than others?

These guys are right on the money. I would recomend at least a 7 footer but I use a 7 1/2. Sometimes it takes a 4 foot plus leader to get a bite. It takes a long rod to cast that and you need the longer rod to pick up some of your extra slack when you set the hook. I would also go with a 7:1 ratio reel to aid with picking your slack up. When you do set the hook, you sweep hard to the side. It is not a reel down set the hook up over your shoulder. You start doing that and you'll miss a lot of bites. Fish it very slow. When you can hardly stand it because your fishin it so slow, slow down from there even. Charmers Timber pup is my choice as far as plastics. That is a baby brush hog that will float a 3/0 hook like its going out of style. The carolina rig is very versitile. You can about any soft plastic on it and catch fish.

Ok so without buying extra stuff... i have a 6'6" MH w/ 50lb braid on it and some 15lb copolymer to use as a leader...say 18-24 inches long... some lead bullet weights, swivels, and glass beads.... a 3/0 EWG hook and a 10" blue fleck powerworm...
doe sthis sound like a descent start so i dont have to spend any money and tick off teh wife... i plan on buykng a flippin stick next month i think and that will be more money than she will be happy with...

Sounds like you have a good start. One piece of advice though. C-rigs can be time consuming to rig up on the water, if you make several variations at home before the trip and store them in a qt. zip-lock bag it'll save a bunch of valuable fishing time. Just tie one on and fish.

The only thing I would change would be the weight. I would go buy a bag of 3/4 oz. egg sinkers. They are cheap. They don't get hung up in rocks near as easy either.

col forbin is right,i see your in shepville,go down to fischers sporting goods,he has egg sinkers loose i believe,they used to be cheaper than the bagged ones.as stated also about protecting your knots,i buy a piece of fuel line for weedeaters,cut it in pieces.it's like 1\16th i.d..if you use the big worms you may run into the worm and sinker not flying together on the cast,it's interesting,go to a bigger sinker will cure it.
