Carolina Rig for Beginners...

Here is a way to get started. Put a 1/2 oz weight, bead, swivel, 24 in leader, 3/0 hook and a 5 inch lizzard.(green pumpkin) Throw that setup and sweep it slow enough to feel the bottom at all times. This will catch fish, I do it all the time. You can use your 6-6 rod or whatever. After using this setup and getting comfortable, then try the long leaders, big weights, and different rods. Let us know what you come up with.

seems to me that the lure should float behind the weight, but most plastics will sink.. how do you counter this?

They don't have to float, a slow flutter down is good too - that is why you should use a lighter wire hook, and stay away from a flouro leader. There are some plastics that float better than others. My favorite around here is Charmer's. They will float a 3/0 hook, there timber pups are look almost the same as zoom's baby brush hogs, but they are loaded with scent and float. But your power worm you mentioned to start with will not sink that quick and will do just fine.

I fish alot of creeks for smallies and use texas rigged worms and craws with alot of luck. Would C-rigging work in the current or should I stick with the T-rig?

No C-rig in current....keep doing what you are doing now!

Ok so without buying extra stuff... i have a 6'6" MH w/ 50lb braid on it and some 15lb copolymer to use as a leader...say 18-24 inches long... some lead bullet weights, swivels, and glass beads.... a 3/0 EWG hook and a 10" blue fleck powerworm...

doe sthis sound like a descent start so i dont have to spend any money and tick off teh wife... i plan on buykng a flippin stick next month i think and that will be more money than she will be happy with...

I woudnt buy a fliipin stick, its going to be too stiff to cast that c rig. Its like a whip and slinging that rig with a stiff rod like a 7ft heavy, well its going to be tuff and wont cast far. Go with a MH rod for this application

It works better with current. Use a one ounce weight, it is much esier to feel. The weight does not matter at all. You can throw right on the bank or thirthy foot of water.

7' heavy rod is better. I use x heavy. You will do better without braid or mono... flourocourbaon main line 17 or 20 with big game leader of 15lbs around 30" is hard to beat.
