    I didn't know that!

Starting with Richard Nixon, and to the present day, evry president has asked congress to start exploring a policy to get us away from mid east oil.Things happen, and its forgotten, Nixon was pushing for [imagine this]health care reform, and energy policy, then came water gate.Ford had the pueblo thing kill him.Carter had Iran, no energy policy.Reagan talked about it,but thats all.Clinton might have done something, then another "spill" side tracked him. What was mentioned25 years ago was nuclear energy, we know how that went over.Ronnie killed the electic cars, with help from GM and the oil industry, so everyone knows we have a looming problem, and what happens? Can someone or some group be killing all these great ideas? Both Bushes asked for a policy, the only one who didn't raise the energy thing was LBJ, wonder why, could viet nam have had anything to do with it.

    Re: I didn't know that!

I'm convinced it's special interest money that decided most of those results. Naturally when the poop hits the fan on other issues things do get set to the side.

The economy revolves around oil and cutting into that tremendous amount of money along with the powerful companies who have a stake in making that money is gonna take a skilled surgeon. Our gubment makes alot off of it so if they continue to blow this "we have to go green" junk down our throats without a practical plan we will see things get alot worse in the country and the world before it ever gets better.

I bet a plan that spans 15-30 years of drilling our own oil, expanding our nuclear program, hitting the coal harder and all the other things like solar and wind would be accepted by most people. Simple things like reducing our dependency on foreign oil, building some refineries (we can always use those) and just tapping our own resources by getting the greenies out of the way will work.

Don't penalize us tax payers with carbon credit junk or companies with the same or over tax our existing energy consumption. Reduce spending, cut bogus programs and pork filled projects and start using the money we already have toward helping the USA. Quite frankly, skrew the majority of the world and take care of us!!

There is a limit to the amount of practical oil that is left. All of us know its not an infinite resourse.I,m willing to bet most americans are fed up with special intrest groups that in effect are leading our lives for us.Cutting programs, where do you start? every state that is in trouble is cutting programs so they wont need to raise taxes, and most of them start with education, So instead of investing in the future of the state and country, they opt for special interest appeasement. Public financed sports areas,Good roads to no where, give aways to private companys that make bogus promises of employment. Yes there is a lot of questionable spending, and those who dont benefit from it call it pork, those who get it call it our taxes at work for us. We all dont like the thought of raising taxes, but it almost is a certancy. But if we plugged loop holes, stopped off shore hiden accounts, and maybe started to use just a little less, that 10 buck per gallon fuel will be put fuerther into the future. We should let go our role as the worlds policemen, quit meddling into other countrys affairs, and concentrate on our problems.Of course that would sure get the military equitpment industry upset.

    Yea......and GLOBAL WARMING is REAL.

I've said it once and I will say it again......it is VERY ARROGANT for our scientific community to make such silly statements.....Like GLOBAL WARMING, and like PEAK OIL, bla, bla, bla, bla.

In reality, we have NO IDEA how much oil is left.

In REALITY.....we have NO IDEA how much oil the Saudi's have, and would they EVEN TELL US.

In REALITY........we have NO IDEA how much OIL Any other country around this EARTH may have either.

You're right. We have no idea how much is left, so we should just assume it'll never run out.

I never said that.......BUT we DON'T know........and we act like we do.

It may NEVER run out in our lifetime. It may run out next decade. I agree with you to some extent that future energy policy should be less about oil and MORE about nuke, wind, solar, hydro, bio, hydrogen, etc, etc, etc. BUT for now.....it is ABOUT OIL.

AND I for one.........don't want to pay a 30-50% premium on energy costs for the sake of GETTING OFF OIL...........if you want to, the by all means......GO AHEAD.

Regardless of what is left the world will use every ounce of it. We need to control our energy needs and not rely on these other countries. Man what a mess we have huh? We really need a leader!!
