I am trying to determine whether to buy a "lead ball" or a "Z Wing" to troll. What set up do you guys use to troll Cumberland or Dale? Especially, the wt(s) used. Thanks for any input.

There are a lot of good trolling aides, downriggers are the best for absolute depth control, but are a pain unless they are electric, and you keep a close eye onyour sonar. I'm using diving planes by lurh jensen, theywork well, they come in sizes that run from 10 ft down to 40 ft down, need a pretty good rod to hansdle them though. A cheap easy system is bottom bouncers, but use them as weights. I use seveeral weights, down to 4 ounces.I uase 20 lb braid, so I let out various lenghts of line, and then using a dropper on a bouncer, attach it to the main line with a rubber band, break off the band when reeling in and make sure it drops into the boat[learned the hard way]. snap weights also are an option. Invest inthat book trhat tells you the depth a lure will run with different amountsof line.Dipsys work, but sink when not being trolled, the lurh jensen divers come to the top.
Thanks for your reply. I have not done any drownrigging before but I want too next year so I am gathering information to see what are the best options.
what kind of boat are you going to troll with?
I have a Tacker Pro 18 with a 60 on it.
If you are interested I have two manual downriggers I want to get rid of. They have only been used once, there is a 8 and 10 lb ball included, and the releases. I'm moving to glasgow and wont be using them that much anymore. Will take 175.00 for both of them.
What name are they? I am interested. I live in Lexington, KY. Leave me a private message.
