Just as good as bluegill. Used to catch em in Pike Co. when I was a teen and my Grandpa would clean em and fry em up.

Have been catching some good blue gill for the freezer. One place I go has a lot of rock bass, has anyone ever cleaned and ate a rock bass, figured there must be some kind of meat there.

I keep what I catch. There's more meat on them than there is a bluegill.
Very good eating. Keep em and eat em! I used to fish Eagle Creek alot and I have caught them up to 11". I have caught them mostly in small creeks and river systems.
Bassky
I used to fry those things up all the time when I was a kid. The most interesting rock bass that I ever caught was on Lake Cumberland casting a Gizz 4 at night for stripers. I thought I had a leaf on my lure and cranked it in only to find a rock bass not much bigger than the lure. They are cool little fish.
