Are there some big carps in those lakes? Im not much on bassin but if theres a good chance at 40 pound goldies Id drive there in a New York minute!
Love them carps, those dude pull like a dentist on a rotten molar! I like that Patoka for big carps, specially round that marina when no ones there. Them dudes are hand fed and I have caught some thats as big as your leg!
Im not your typical carper though, I dont fiddle round with those fancy bait runnin reels or any of those other high tech gizmos. Some of those guys are just plain dumb using all that whoopy doo dah equipment.
Real carpers flip for them! Seriously, I really do flip for carps. Learned it from my grandpa years ago, he was a big time carper and I mean he was the real deal! Gramps would have an 8 foot rod rigged with 20 pound string and he would doodle around all them flotsum piles looking for them bigguns suckin all that goo thats in them piles. Hed take a big stout 1/0 hook and thread 3 or 4 pieces of marsmellows on it and once he spotted a giant would be real quiet and drop it right on his nose. It was awesome, specially since Gramps was a little dude, only bout 130 pounds soakin wet!
I know for a fact that I can flat out whoop any other carpers around, specially them ones with the beepers and special dough baits they make. All you need is a good stout flippin pole, some braided line like spider string and some of them little marsmellows soaked in corn juice. Once you get a good eye and ear, you know when a biggun is close and you just hunker down and wait til he shows hisself. Ya gotta be quiet though, them big carps are slicker than all get out, smart too, lots smarter than a bass or crappie.
My biggest pure carp to date is 44 pounds, and my biggest crass carp was 51 inches long and 39 inches around! Them grass carps are a whole other ball game, Ill chime in on that later. Sorry for carryin on like a teenager, I just love them carps and get all shook up talkin about them!
Yes. Huge carp in there. I hate catching those things. All most everytime I throw a rattle trap I either catch gar or snag carp. Biggest a lil over 30lbs is my guess. The culvert between loon and bluegrass is loaded with carp. I'll post a pic of one I got earlier this year to show you.
