    Re: Homeowners associations

I agree this is tragic but something stinks. How would they miss payments? They paid off a 300k house? Who does that? One would think wealthy, smart and agressive people would be able to do that. Was she aware of the payments? Did They have it set up as an automatic withdrawl payment? Sumtin is stinky...
I'm glad that they actually have some legal recourse.

That's insane that they're able to do that. I'm not one of those that thinks that every new problem needs a new law to fix it, but I think it's pretty clear that something needs to changed. Sure HOA's need to be able to collect past-due fees, but that doesn't mean they need to have the power to confiscate and sell your home to do it! What a bunch of vultures! These people missed TWO payments, and if it weren't for the fact that he's in the military, they'd be SOL!

I understood that her husband was in the military. I don't know what happened but wouldn't be surprised if he had a job making good money as a civilian, or there was possibly an inheritance that helped them pay off the mortgage. Chances are their financial situation went downhill when he went into the military. If they had recently bought the house the wife could have not known or forgotten about the homeowners fees.
