I spent 11hrs on the pier today. The king mackeral where on FIRE, I however chocked and went 0-2.
I did manage to bring home a slot banded rudder fish for dinner (like amber jack but just a few pounds and taste better).
The water was BEAUTIFUL today. Crystal clear water, bait everywhere, big schools of jacks, big sharks, sea turtles and of course that **** flipper.
Another beautiful day in paradise.
I never caught a Rudder Fish nor knew of it's existance... I do now.
Are you lowering a net down from the Pier to get the fish you hook? Man sounds like you are having a good time down there. Did the business opportunity work out?
For some smaller fish like sheepsheads, redfish, black snapper, etc you will lower a big net, kind of like an umbrella net. For the bigger fish like kings, sharks and cobia you will use what is basically a snatch hook from hell called a pier gaff.
Im still on the fence about the business and of course now is not the easiest time to get a loan.
We're still up in the air on our trip to Destin. Are the beaches still in pretty good shape Jason??? We allways stay in the condo's behind Pompano Joes off old 98. Man I'm diein to get down there.Great catch... Chuck
Chuck, the beaches are fine, always have been. The media is real good about zooming in on the small bad sections of the beach making you think that the whole place is like that but in reality it washes up in little sections at a time. Also when it does wash up its quickly cleaned up. Even the really hard hit areas like Orange Beach and Gulf Shores are nice and clean for now.
Destin never suffered a good direct hit.
You can probably find a great deal and I'm telling you that as of now you wont regret it. If anything do what my dad did and wait till the last minute. He came the week before the fourth and got a $2,200/wk condo on Navarre beach for $850.
When you come let me know so we can do some fishing!!
