I read in a book that you want a reel with slower revolution or if you have a high speed reel you need to be mindful of how fast your reeling.

Reeling a 5:3:1 at the same speed as a 7:3:1 will put your crank at two different depths. The faster retrieve will prevent the crankbait from going as deep as it possibly can go. Lighter line also helps get the crank deeper as well.

I know the may or june edition of the BASS magazine talked about Paul Elias tricks for getting the crankbait deeper in the water... you may want to consider picking that up for some tips.

I like my Revo Winch's on my St. Croix's. Good smooth reels and fit the rods nice. I don't know how it would feel on those rods you mentioned, but I like the reels.

One burner and one 5. Revo winch as said before is a very good reel. I use both everytime out. Shallower I want the crank the faster the reel. 20'+ I want a slower gear ratio. It kills my arm throwing dd's for 10+ hours on faster reels. It was stated before but the slower the reel the deeper it goes for dd's. One thing I've noticed especially throwing Norman dd's the wobble looks all messed up to me with a faster reel. But like the rest of fishing do what you like and is most comfortable.

    Re: Crankin reel

The best cranker I got is a Penn 525 magnetized. I can zip out anything from most imitators anywhere from 25 to 100 yards. My most important consideration is a good whippy rod like I construct in my garage labratory. Gotta have a good tippy rod that loads up good. Me and my partner/cousin Todd have a saying--zing that thing my ning!!!!

Oh yeah, best cranking string is that power prow at the skinniest strength necessary.

Mag penn reel+zinging rod+skinny sting= zing that thing my ning!!!!

    Hope this helps,
    TGMD
