Off work friday and can't decide whether to go to Cave Run and fish the grass or go to cumberland and chase the brownfish....anyone have a suggestion?
Day bite from what I'm hearing is almost non existent as usual for this time of year. You get that little window early in the morning for topwater but I heard it's even been slow. I haven't been down for a few weeks now so all this is stuff I get from my Peeps down there. Cumberland from 2nd or 3rd week in June till late Sept is night fishing and daytime fishing for bass anyway is futile, been my experience on that lake every year.
Yeah I figured thats the way it was....I may get out friday night and hit it.....just can't make up my mind....any area of the lake better to fish at night for the smallies? Upper lake, Mid lake, Lower? Creeks? Main Lake? ...I figure if i'm gonna night fish for the brown ones I should probably hit main lake points in the creek mouths....
throw a fluke and if that doesnt work....throw a fluke and if you have to throw a fluke !!!!
You ever try the Magnum Flukes?
last I herd, main points from Jamestown to Beaver, 3/16oz, tubes, craws, for SM, this info is about 2 or 3 weeks old, but if I were going that's were I would go JMO
Gary
i havent used the magnum flukes, do you do good on them?
I'm a West end guy myself. I smallmouth fish and that's where some big brown one's live. Jigs at night, plastics are alright sometimes. Don't forget that big hammered Colorado blade, and crankbaits can also be good sometimes down there at night. Had some stellar nights on a crank and not the color you might think either.
Daytime, you can still catch some of them little bankrunners, but for the ones with shoulders, night bite till the fall.
You can troll for big smallies in Dale all day long so L C should have the same patterns....Dave
I have thought about what you do many times since you first starting posting on here in relation to Cumberland. Yes I'm sure it would work, also some bonus fish such as stripers, walleye, Spots and largeheads would probably be caught as well. I'm gonna have to book a trip with you sometime and see exactly what you are doing. Your pics appear that you are using downriggers to get deep, what size ball weight and tactics I would need to learn. I'm not a trolling kinda guy but would like to know the method you are doing anyway.
I started with deep diving cranks like Rapala's fat raps and bombers, storm mag warts and lightning shad. 150 to 250 ft of ten lb mono w/ a floro leader should get them deep enough.Didn't even have rod holders, just held the rod in my hand....
