    reel repair

does anyone know someone reliable & honest around frankfort, louisville, lexington that repairs & cleans reels? I have an older model quantum that is acting up.

It looks new doesn't show any sings of wear. I've had it apart several times trying to clean and relube myself but when I take it out it works great for about the first 20 cast then starts sticking on the reteirve under the load of a crankbait.

I also would like to get my curado's cleaned.

I recently used a guy in Louisville named Martin Stivers (502-363-4555) off Dixie Hwy at Watterson. He builds and repairs rods as well as maintains reels. He told me he specializes in AbuGarcia (which is what I use almost exclusively). Rod guides were around $6 each, tips a little more I think. On the reels, he completely tears them down, bathes them, and lube & greases them for $9 each. Also had him put some filler in my cork handles and sand for $2 each. I spent $130 with him to have like 8 rods/reels gone through completely and it was some of the best money ever spent. All of them were from 5-13 years old and now cast like new. Great work and an even greater guy....

I found Martin by calling Tim Tipton (502-553-1101) who also does repair as I understand it. Tim was covered up and referred me to Martin...so you might try either one.
