Thanks, Steve. Good fishing.
Crappie and bluegills can still be caught, and if you can find them, you can load the boat. They are not as easy to find in the heat of summer, but look for structure or cover that sticks out above the thermocline. Also night fishing has been good this year with submersible lights. Trolling crankbaits or long line trolling is always an option as well.
anybody still seeing gills on the beds? i saw some this past weekend...thought it was strange
I've seen them spawn more than once during spring/summer with the right conditions - not sure if it's the same gills that spawned earlier or some that didn't feel the urge to go on the nest early going later in the year?
Ron,
You should fish with your son's company's CFO. I hear he is the man when it comes to Bass Fishing!!
SLT is exactly right, gills will spawn all summer. I think were at about the 4th time at the lakes I fish. Most of the biggest fish come in May, but you can still get fish off the beds through out the summer.
They're on it right now in the pond behind my house. My first thought was they're spawning but then I thought those beds are old ones from the spring. There are lot of tiny fry too and the bass are cruising the shallow hitting buzzbait pretty well the past couple of weeks. They wanted nothing to do with the buzzbait before that.
