    Trigger finger

Anyone else ever develop this problem? I currently am getting it in my left pinky finger... its being caused by gripping the fishing rod w/ my left hand. They suggest 4-6 weeks of rest... yikes, Not sure if Id be able to go that long in the middle of the summer.

Come to Kentucky, with this heat and humidity, you won't have any trouble with not being able to fish.

    Angry Re: Trigger finger

Is that the real name for it? My hands hurt so bad after fishing allday. It is the same hand, the left one that holds the reel. All I can do is take a few pain killers and rest it. I got a tourny this weekend and now you got me thinking about it.

lol grumpy, i went pond hopping yesterday and only pulled 2 out... i know how you feel right now, its been kind of a miserable stretch

Slim, ill try to explain it as best as possible. But its when the sheath around the joint of the finger gets inflammed from overuse due to gripping. It essentially causes your finger to lock in a bent position, and can sometimes cause pain to straighten it out and re-warm the muscle. Its typically felt in the morning or after long stretches where the finger may have stayed in a bent position.

Recommendations for treatment is a splint to keep it straight and 4-6 weeks rest.

ouch, i used to have tennis elbow in both arms, it would get so bad that after a tourny i would have to drive with arms on my knee and just use my fingers. i have had shots in both elbows and shock treatment,

    Re: Trigger finger

Simple fix. Tape the reel to your hand! On a serious note my hand used to get tired after a long day fishing. Especially deep cranking. I found a way to fix that. Get a item called rod grip. It's the same people who make reel grips. It increases the size of the rod which leaves your hand in a more open position. You may laugh at this (I know I did) but it makes a huge difference. I tried it for a couple hours, soon as I got home I ordered them for every rod. It also keeps your foam/cork in perfect shape.

Fishing is hard on you – had so many problems casting with my right arm – carpal tunnel, tennis elbow, torn rotator cuff, rheumatoid & osteo arthritis – that when it hurt too bad I’d try using my left arm.

Fixed me right up - now they both hurt!

Thanks for the info justin... i havent checked the link yet... but I grip the reel and seldom grip the rod(only when my wrist hurts or so)

I actually think Im getting it because of the fact that ive gone to almost exclusively jig fishing (thanks paul).

    Re: Trigger finger

I do to. Don't ask me how but I'm telling you the things help. Maybe cause my pinkie and ring finger are still around the rod while my pointer and middle are wrapped around the reel. (yes I know I hold it funny!)

    Re: Trigger finger

I don't know about that other stuff but I can tell you what fixed my trigger fingers. GLUCOSAMINE. I take 500 to 1500 mg a day. Since I started taking it my trigger finger has gone away. I'm not sure how long it took but one day I realized that I didn't have it anymore. It'll help all your other joints as well. You can get it over the counter at Wal-Mart or any drug store. Try it, it'll help.
