    Tuff on cumberland river today

Morning started out good. Cows standing up two trout right off the bat. Dink and dinky. Put in at helms bald egale was soaring nice morning. Floated to gravel bar below helms between the power lines look up and the birds were perched in numbers. Oh no bad sign. Anticipating 9,000 gallons and swift water. Somthing strange going on. fished all the way to winfreys rock one slot brown. not good, fast current hard to find. Trailer trout very few. Talked to other fishermen and nobody doing anything. Ran up to kendall ramp to fish back to helms and stippers trailed my crank bait more than once. Water murkey 59 degrees and I haveing a hard time catching fish. Fished a lot of water and the Cumberland was finally cleaning my clock. Left helms around 6pm. Talked to one guide and he was skunked so the day not a total loss. 3 fish, 30 river miles, 10hrs. on water, 4hrs worth of driving. Check the water flow at home and they cut it back from 9 to 5,000 cfm. made for a long day on the cumberland. water didn't drop ,but the cut back on the cfs did. Ouch! Ever dog has it's day.

Thanks for the reports guys....Wish the fishing had been better. So, when you going to hit the Cumberland again , bet it's the first chance you get..

Yeah I've been having some hay days down there and one slow trip won't shut me down. Been fishing it for 20 some odd years and these days happen. Just hasn't happened in a long time. Seeing more stripper activity this year than I've ever seen down there that close to the dam. Guess i could take some bait but I'm an artificial fisherman. Can't sit and wait I have to go find them. Knew they would cut back the flow soon and I think thats what hurt.

I just got back from a long weekend down there. Very slow. 60 trout between three of us for Fri, Sat, and Sun. We mainly fished by the dam, running up to the wing wall and drift back down to the boat ramp.

Thanks for the feed back I'm so use to cathchin 40+ a day It just reallytook me for a loop. If I'd know they where going to cut the water back I'd stayed home and mowed. In my opion when they cut back that water you need to give them trout a day or two to adjust. I know a lot of fisherman prefer no generation, but my style of fishing thrives on it. water looked fairly turbulant at dam and I usually don't fish above kendall ramp so I stayed out. Still enjoyed being down there and I'll be back for sure.
