All be it with some joking, but we've managed to keep the thread up near the top for a few days and it has more views than any other on the front page...

For all we know, the potential buyer may have already seen it and emailed for more info...all because a bunch of goofballs kept the thread up high on the page. That's free publicity right there. You're welcome.

Guess I forgot to add the after that last post...

Before I wrote that only two posts were about Frymans...the rest were silly and could use their own thread. There were some good ideas in those silly posts though! I want to be sure to thank Brian for ALL that free advertising too.

If you look at the first post, there is as much information as I can give right now. Its in the early stages, so I couldn't give a price or a link. Thats a pretty weak excuse for "hijacking" a thread...but I understand its an open forum so no beef here.... Although the term "hijacking" seems a little harsh for an open forum...haha. Ever since this post went up I've dreamed about buying it and keeping it what it is. I can dream can't I? I remember fishing and camping at Fryman's 20 years ago when Mr. Fryman let his coon dog pups run loose and they'd tree all night long. Spent alot of time there in the springtime when the low spot on his neighbors property would fill up with water and carp.

We used to shoot carp out of that low spot and some of those pups were worth a boat load of money...just saying.

No, they've been tinkering with the idea of selling it for a couple years now. I think he ran for the commission because he liked the idea of informed sportsmen making decisions about the state rules and regs.

When Bob ran it and lived there on the property, the overhead was next to nothing and he didn't have to pay anyone to run the shop and tend the campground. Even though they have put some money in the old barn and fixed up the campground, the combination of the economy and the hot/humid/rainy weather slowed things down to the point where it hasn't been profitable enough year-to-year to justify keeping it open to the public. The "honor system" payment method has turned out to be ineffective; there are constantly people bankfishing, launching and even camping without paying.
Talked to Joe last weekend, and while I think he would sell it for the right price, he isn't aggressively trying to sell it immediately. Of course its understandable he doesn't want to sell the small business his father started but if its costing them money to keep open, then it doesn't make sense financially. I think a lot of people simply don't know about Fryman's ramp, the fishing at Stoner and Strodes, or the camping available there. With some consistent advertising and a few changes (weekly or monthly tournaments, more direct-ordering through suppliers for customers, etc.) a solid customer base could be built and it could be less of a financial risk year-to-year. If its going to be sold, I just hope its to someone who will leave the ramp access open so locals with small boats or who need to rent a boat can still use it.

I just don't see how that place could survive with tournaments and mail order. I've watched small tackle shops here in lex go under and they had the best customer base around. How would a small off the beaten path body of water and tackle shop survive? If he can sell he should.

You are right...lexington and other places have had plenty of small shops go under because they couldn't survive...and it'll never be a place someone could get rich from. It would be very tough to make it... definately have to be for someone who lived there on the property and had time to do the work themselves.
