I see on Gloomis' website Backwaters in Lexington will have the new NRX rods on Friday at 8 pm. Only place in the state that is getting them for the kickoff. They look awesome and the feel is supposed to be incredible. I heard they will have some there to demo as well as sell.

I don't see me dropping 5 bills on a fishing rod no matter how sensitive or light it's supposed to be. Just remember, Skeet Reese had the most incredible season ever on the Elite Series with a $89 rod. $500 dollar rods don't put more fish in the boat. But if you got the money to spend and it helps your confidence more power to ya.
I am sure they are sick rods. They arent for everybody but for the people who use GLX rods another $100 isnt as big a deal.
Do you really think Skeet's rods are the same as the ones off the shelf?
G-Loomis are not for everyone but those who do like the glx will LOVE the new NRX.
Ok. How about another example. Edwin Evers uses BPS Carbon Lite Rods and a $69 BPS Crankin Stick. No doubt the NRX will be a sweet rod and I would use them if they were given to me but $500 dollars is a lot of money. I think G-Loomis is going in the wrong direction as far as the industry goes.
I understand what you mean, but there are so many new rods in the $80-$150 range that are good rods. The NRX are not made for everyone, they are made for those people who want the very best rod out there and will let the feel of the rod sell them not the price tag.
Don't get me wrong, I am glad that there are many new mid-range rods hitting the market that gives more people the chance to fish. I am also glad that one of the leaders in the rod market are producing even higher end models.

I remember a similiar argument over spending $15 for a crankbait when all the new Japanese lures hit the market many years ago. Heck it started with the hooks! People were shocked that someone like Gamakatsu would charge that much for hooks! I heard things like...why they are crazy they won't make it. Lol look at it now.
IMO...Loomis will do just fine with this. Look at the bright side maybe Shimano will get some of the old GLX technology sold for less??They have it made, put Loomis high dollar stuff out there and then offer the cheaper stuff (great stuff!) through the Shimano name.
I am pretty sure they are the same rods. Its rare that pros use a higher end production model. When Boyd Duckett found out Carrot stix were not the ones he was using he quit.
A big part of what you pay for with a high dollar rod and reel is weight. Heavier rods and reels materials are cheaper and easier to build. Skeets rods are heavy but he doesnt mind for years he used the Lamiglass rods and he has always used alot of fiberglass rods that are heavier and have are very parabolic bend, thats his preference. Loomis rods are weightless compared to Skeets rods so its a matter of how important a lighter rod is to you. I have heard some guys say they dont like Skeets rods and its because they are heavier. I could care less about the weight I like the over the counter life time warranty with Loomis and Shimano.
4.50 hours and counting....... I can not wait....
The trusty ole Ugky Stick is still a good rod for around 40 bucks, they are a great cranking rod, 500 for a rod is a little steap but people with that kinda cash will buy it, it is not for us average small tourney weekend 40 hr week guys, I know it is out of my league as the state just cut our pay 5% so it might be back to the ole Ugly Sticks for me. Yea Don when Gammas came out we weny ogh my god, now they are cheap compared to others like Trokar, but I wount use anything other than Gamas as they are a great product.
