The home is where such things should be taught, not in a public school. Would you feel the same about your kids learning "golden nuggets" of Jewish, Islamic, Hindu, Budist, etc. religions in school? Why should others in public school be forced to learn your religion?

Don, there has been plenty of condemnation of islamic terrorist attacks by various islamic organizations and leaders. Google them, they don't show up on Fox news.

Some good stuff by HurricaneBob too. Must have gotten a good bottle of Makers recently or something

Lol I honestly watch more than fox news. I'm sorry it isn't enough for me. Maybe all those thousands of hours I have watched tv since 911 of many channels could have produced one interview for me. Guess I missed it. Btw, I can bet fox would have carried it after all they are fair and balanced.

Re: Very Simple Question about Obama

[QUOTE=bassin_bug;424753][QUOTE=parker;424690]I am 44 and although I do remember saying the pledge of alegiance I cannot remember hearing a devotional in school. I asked my 13 year old and he said they still say the pledge everyday at his school.

You should have paid attention in class. I must be somewhat older than you because they say it's the "young whipper-snappers" who know everything. I went to school during the days of "Little House on the Prairie." I have a 14 year-old and she clearly remembers their daily devotional (The 23rd Psalm), The Lord's Prayer, and The Pledge of Allegiance. It's too bad your son missed those golden nuggets. I hope you step up to the plate and teach them to him.

    No further discussion is necessary.
No need to worry. All my children get their knowledge of the Bible at home with family and Church. I dont send them to a public school to achieve a greater understanding of their faith, I send them to get an education.

Re: Very Simple Question about Obama

My Papaw told me one time..."Whatever you do, don't argue with someone about religion. When you debate about God, or whose God is the right God, or who's interpretation of the Bible is best, the arguments get awfully low on facts and awfully high on emotion. Believe what you believe, and let the rest be. We live in America, where you can believe whatever you want to believe, and you don't have to apologize to a **** soul for it. Save your breath for something you can debate with facts...like how a Ford is a whole lot better than a Chevy."

The Constitution and Freedom of Religion are some pretty rigid cords in the backbone of this country...and while I have enjoyed reading these threads immensely and respect everyone's opinions, I'm awfully hesitant to chime in with mine. It's not because I don't believe in them, but because I think the old man was right.

Of course, Papaw also told me that my Granny had a birthmark on her butt shaped like Florida with a mole where Disney World is...and I believed that too.

Ain't no debate to be had about that subject, all that right there is is fightin' words! I come from a long line of Chevrolet history...I was conceived in the back seat of a 57 Chevy...debate over! lol, lol, lol....

I started the thread and didn't intend for it to get religeous...it's just good ol' common sense in my opinion to not build a freakin' mosque within ear shot of where the Twin Towers ONCE stood...religeous or not, that's just a HUGE slap in the face to the survivors of the attack and the loved one's of those who didn't survive the attack. All most any of you all would have to do is look back on that day and remember how most people in this country felt at the time, remember the news papers printing up American Flags for circulation the following day? That was their effort to make sure everyone had a flag to wave, I put my paper flag in the back of my truck window. It stayed there until it was nothing more than a tannish/brownish piece of paper. America sure did come together as one there for awhile, I wish we had that kind of team spirit today. It seems to me we're getting more divided now than we ever have been. I wonder if anyone would have approved of building this Mosque within one week after the attacks? Maybe (cause there's a lot of whack jobs running around), maybe not (most likely not). So what has changed since that day?

So why the division of people for and against, religeous or not? The most religeous person I know is my mom...lots of days I'll go to mom and dad's house, walk in the front door, and there mom is, sitting on the couch with her bible in her lap, she has literally worn her bible out over the years...the spine is beginning to become unglued, the edges of the pages are dingy yellow from where her fingers have flipped through them time and time again...and even though she knows right from wrong...she too is having a hard time accepting the possible building of this mosque.

In her own words: "Something's not right".

I find it interesting to see the Pledge of Allegiance cited in what's turned into a religious thread. I wonder if those who mention it remember that when it was written, the phrase "under God" was not part of it? FDR, the author of the New Deal, that president that so may RIGHTISTS (sorry George, couldn't resist ) love to hate, inserted it.

The terrorists flying the planes were from the middle east and were Muslims. I don't want to hear that Muslims in the United States are peaceful people. They live by the Quaran (sp). Doesn't it teach them to kill the infidels or people who are not Muslims. The bombing of the Twin Towers took the life of my first cousin and lead to the war in Iraq which took the life of my brother. I take the building of a mosque at Ground Zero personally and consider it smearing their deaths in my face all over again.

If you want to talk about the government stepping in to deny citizens the right to worship where they want, why did you conveniently forget about prayer and Bible reading in schools? Talk to us about the government denying CHRISTIAN students the right to have prayer and Bible reading in schools. At the same time, and in some of the same schools, they provide a room and and time out of classes for Muslims to go say prayers and worship their god. How can you call that the freedom to worship for Christians? YOU tell us which bill of rights apply because you seem to be the only one who knows.
Did EVERY MUSLIM do that, or just a few in a couple planes?

Men commit more crimes then women IAW FBI crime stats, so when we are born male, do we go to jail right off the bat? (No....they make us get married and are sentenced to that punishment FOR LIFE )

    Geo
Point of minor correction. They ATTACKED it....they did not CONQUER it because they do not own it, have not taken that ground from us, and their government does not control it. RE below, they have not taken our hearts, nor our land, nor our possessions. IF we take away religious freedom because of what they did, then they have "Taken away our hearts", and so conquer would fit. We can only be the loser in this, if we chose to do so.

con·quer /ˈkɒŋkər/ Show Spelled[kong-ker] verb (used with object)
    1. to acquire by force of arms; win in war: to conquer a foreign land.
    2. to overcome by force; subdue: to conquer an enemy.
    3. to gain, win, or obtain by effort, personal appeal, etc.: conquer the hearts of his audience.

I tend to agree. Look at how we viewed the Japanese after Pearl Harbor? Look what ultimately happened to end that Japanese aggression. Yet, we have today warm ties with the Japanese. How long should it take to realize we can not hold a whole race, or all members of a country, or all of a religion to blame for the ruthless acts of just a few in leadership positions within that race, countyr, or religion. What about Hiltler? Look what he did to Great Britian in the Blitz. Yet Germany and the English, and US are allies now.

IF WE ALLOW THE TERRORISTS OF 911 TO CAUSE US NOW TO ABANDON THE MOST BASIC UNDERPINNINGS OF OUR AMERICAN WAY OF LIFE, IF WE NOW DECIDE RELIGIOUS FREEDOM IS NOT FOR ALL AS OUR CONSTITUTION SAYS IT IS.......THEN THEY HAVE WON BY CAUSING US TO ABANDON OUR VALUES AND OUR WAY OF LIFE.

2 ways to defeat an enemy. Either with brute force, or ideologically. The terrorists can match us blow for blow, but they can cause us to question our way of life in hope we will willfully abandon it.

So I say "NO", I won't call out to stop religious freedom. Obama said we as Americans have to be above this, and see the right to religious freedom as a basic American value that not even a tragedy like 911 can take away from us.

Should we say no Catholic churches near play grounds because of the indescretions and crimes committed by a few of that church? What about the race and religion of the folks that crucified Christ? Should that religion and race be banned from worship in America? Do we want to look deep to mid-evil days and look at the ruthless actions that occurred and were perpetrated by Christians?

Gosh folks, what relgion has a clean slate, and has not experienced ruthless leadership?

Last thought......how many terroristist, extremists, and insurgents in the US, IRAQ,and Afghanistan have we sent to meet with Allah since 911? Point is, punish the individual criminal, not the race, or religion, or nationality.

Lets stay true to what makes us great, our values. Lets see this as a woeful and terrible incident, that as such, is still not enough to make us back away for the freedoms MILLIONS of Americans have fought and died to preserve.
