I have always used the expediter option when replacing my Loomis rods. They will replace it no questions asked for $50.00. They send you a new rod in prepaid return shipping tube. It has always been my fault when one of my loomis rods broke, never bacause of the workmanship. If you'd had over the counter replacement, you have been very lucky.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but the expediter service went up to 100.00 now, which is still a bargin for someone who breaks there rod not due to a defect
Yeah a bargain for sure but if Shimano Rods are gonna be over the counter replacement then why even bother with Loomis? Is that still the case with Shimano?
I know Shimano owns Loomis but whats the deal? I'm sold on Cumaras and if they continue to service Shimano rods better then I say the heck with Loomis. I own alot of the Loomis rods from waaay back in the early 90's so I have been loyal to them but I'm all about customer service and a quality product.
I like the way the shimanos handle however I like my Loomis's too, that being said how long can shimano keep giving rods away no questions asked? Bottom line for any company is profit you cant keep giving away profit no matter how big you are, If I break the same 200 dollar cumara say 6 times(I dont know their margin so this is a guess) they would have been better off to just give me the rod because they havent made anything, heck just break it every year and have new equipment lol. I'm sure Shimano has a marketing plan and the free replacement has a life span once they hit their numbers you will see this phased out, excuse the pun but "everything has a breakin point"![]()
I don't know anyone whose taken the same cumara or loomis in 6 times for replacement. It is more like maybe they have had 5 or 6 rods replaced, but they own 5 or 6 or more HIGH END rods, and they PAID for that warranty.I like the way the shimanos handle however I like my Loomis's too, that being said how long can shimano keep giving rods away no questions asked? Now, if the case is someone replacing the same rod 5 or 6 times, that is different.....but I suspect it is more what I said.
Personally, I own 5 loomis rods and 5 cumara rods. I've used the Expeditor process 4 times over 15 years. I have not yet had to replace a cumara.....

Overcounter warrenties are dependent on honest fisherman. Guys that don't take care of there eqipment or intentionally break a rod to get a new one drive up costs and force companies to increase cost and change policy. I don't have any way to know how common this is but I believe it was behind the recent increase in loomis cost.
Ok that was for thought the six rods, but in your case you've used the expeditor 4 times for 5 rods now I'm ASSUMING since you used the expeditor and not the warranty the problem was your fault, so loomis GAVE you a new rod -50 bucks, now if that was a GLX they probably just lost 300+ dollars (minus labor and material) so after 4 rods they just gave up 80% of the profit they originally made from you(minus the 50 per rod) multiply that ???I don't know anyone whose taken the same cumara or loomis in 6 times for replacement. You dont pay for the "over the counter warranty", your simply paying for a high end rod, for example you wreck your 60k Denali truck(a "high end truck), chevy doesnt say send us a 100 bucks and will ship you a new one. I'm just curious if any of the other "High end rods" have over the counter replacement or something along the lines of the expeditor service..... I doubt it but someone may prove me wrong.....
I agree all good things come to an end. Maybe if they would institute a policy of earning reward points on purchases or credits based on business u gave them it could cut down on abuse if it exists.? If you have a set limit based upon purchase activity as opposed to paying for replacement sevices or in conjunction with those services things might be nice for honest customers.I like the way the shimanos handle however I like my Loomis's too, that being said how long can shimano keep giving rods away no questions asked? I did some quick surfing and st. croix does have a expeditor type service like loomis's however maybe shimano's over the counter may go on for ever as they are making a hefty profit from what I read
I have been switching to B&R Outlaw Rods, they have a $50 over the counter no questions asked warranty. By having to deal with the warrany crud I can see the change back to less-than superior rods going to happen, Walmart may have to stock up again. Anybody who has used or looked at the B&R's are beyond happy and when you can walk in and hand them the rod and $50 and walk out with a new rod is a pretty good deal for those who shut the rod box on their rod! No questions asked warranty.
The warranty is for manufacturer’s defects, not fisherman stupidity. Trying to get your bait out rocks or not take two seconds to secure a bait to keep it from flopping around and damaging the rod, should not mean they have to send you a rod when it breaks. 75% of rod breakages are caused by damage to the rod, therefore weakening it so it breaks on a hook set. G-Loomis knows this and they still cover the replacement. They can also tell when it is broke of your knee and shut in a car door.
The NRX rods have a one time over the counter FREE replacement no questions asked, but if it breaks fishing related, then you still get the warranty on the rod by sending it back to Loomis.
My two cents is if it breaks whlie setting the hook then let your local shop send it back for you that way when or if it is broken not fishing releated then you get to use your get out of jail free card.
