    Nolin Sunday 29 Aug 10

Was in the water at Wax at 6 AM. Ran to Conoloway Creek mouth looking for whites jumps. Stayed there 3 hours with no luck for jumps, and caught 3 crappie trolling Bandit cranks. Next ran down passed Moutadier, and 1/2 way to the dam looking for jumps. No luck. Came back up to "Cono", and still nothing there, then up to Dog Creek at the mouth. Lots of good sized jumps going on and boated 7 1 to 2 pound KY and Large mouth on a Zora Spook. That are quieted down around 1039 am, so we ran around well up passed Wax and didn't find anymore surface acton.

    Couple funny things:

    a. At Dog Creek, a bass boat with 2 guys in it were also fishing the jumps. When a jump went up, they'd power up and run right into the MIDDLE of the white water, then cast well out to all sides of where they stopped. Was kinda cracking me up. If they had just stopped 40 feet short of the feeding fish they would have landed a ton!

    b. Didn't see any white bass jumps at al all day. Whas up with dat? They go on vacation?

    c. Friday night, wife and I tried same areas, and not white bass jumps, but......we caught 4 ea 18 to 23 inch flatheads, and 4 channels cats from 16 to 24 inches, all on top water baits including Spooks and Baby Redfins. Whas up with dat? Never done that before.

Is it maybe the water is so warm and oxygen bad at the surface, that the whites done gone deep, and the cats that can stand anything have taken there place?

    Bob-
I have noticed the same thing with the jumps disappearing. Seemed to happen after we cooled off there for a little while, and got all that rain. Water temps dropped 10 degrees...don't know why that would shut them off, but that is all I can think of that is different. We have just been KILLING them this year on the jumps....in 93 degree water! I think the drop in water temps pushed them to the banks cause we have caught some nice ones on banklines halfway back in creeks. Check out some that we caught this evening doing just that...

Caught them all on large t-rigged worms right on the bank in the Moutardier area. I hope the jumps aren't done for the year....they've been so much fun!!! Take care.

I was down there this weekend, and it looks as though the thermocline was at about 20' and we didnt catch anything deeper than 15' all weekend.

Was there on Tuesday and caught several LM and Spots in the jumps. Dog Creek early, about 3 miles short of the dam later in the am. South wind had the jumps located anywhere on the east side of the main water chop. Did find some whites about 3 miles above Wax in the early pm. Small guys though, nothing over 11". Over a dozen bass before noon but nothing bigger than 16". My wife is now hooked on fishing with Pop R's! I guess better than her being hooked on quilting or something girlie!!

Re: Nolin Sunday 29 Aug 10

Nolin has been crazy this year with whites and lgmouth. Went a week ago Mon and fished all night Mon and had 10 keepers one 4 and a couple of 3's. Best night I have ever had for keepers. (had 18lbs one summer night but only caught 6 keepers) Fishing was so good we stayed and fished Tue night and had 10 keepers one well over 4 and at least five 3's. A new best night. We must have caught at least 100 fish each night. It was incredible. It was so good we fished Wed night. It rained the first hour after dark and Nolin changed back to the Nolin we all know and love. Had 2 keepers and both of them bare-lees. Caught no more than 20 fish total. Isn't fishin great? Oh well that's Nolin. Shoot that's everywhere for me even at Barren. ro
