I had a doctor visit yesterday and my shoulder is better but a torn rotator cuff will not heal without surgery. He has asked me to pospone it for 6 months and to be very careful not to reinjure it or try to compensate with the right arm and over use it. I will not be lifting anything heavy or using my left arm above my head. That means I'll spend some time on a step-ladder pulling things down from closets. Lifting heavy boxes will be left up to someone else. I think my biggest challenge will be wrapping all my china and boxing it. The last time the movers did my packing they stole my silverware and a box of paintings and documents. I know you will enjoy visiting your friends on the St. Lawrence river. I hope it is the best. There is just something about being on the water that is so calming and peaceful. Geo should be very calm with all that fishing therapy he will be getting. lol
Bug I have a torn rotator cuff and my shoulder became stiff because of the tear and the fact I did not use it because of the pain and the fact I did nothing for a year. Finally had MRI and was sent to an orthopedic surgeon. He told me he would not operate until I had done exercises to loosen up the shoulder. I went back in two weeks and was improving very well he told me to keep up the exercises and come back. When I went back I was doing great and was in no pain, He asked me if I was doing so well why should we operate and I agreed. He said the tear would not heal and if it got worse to come see him. I was telling another Dr. this story and he said he thinks any tear will heal over time.

Do they have you doing any exercises?

Have a good Labor day Bug.

I do my exercises right after I get out of bed in the morning because that's the time when I am sore and stiff and I use my arm regardless of whether it hurts or not. I'm more concerned about the two tendon that are torn but so far so good. I have a high pain tolerance and did not take any pain medications other than Tylenol, and 2 Tramadol pills when I was first injured. I believe the 2 epidurals I had to block the pain in my neck have helped to control the pain in my shoulder. It has been almost a year since I was injured and something has to have healed during that period of time. I told my family doctor that if I have made it this long without surgery I can make it another 5 years. His answer was that the surgery would cause me horrible pain and if it was him, he would not have it but just be careful not to do anything to reinjure it. My orthopaedic surgeon disagrees and I think that is partly because he knows I have good insurance. He had to refund me about $2,200 that they requested in advance of the surgery and it was like ripping his teeth out to get it. It took 3 months after the surgery was cancelled.

    Have a great Labor Day.
