Got out for a couple of hours this morning - it has been a while, and had a great outing! Of course nothing beats the big fish of the spring here, or perhaps a good ledge bite in the summer (I just hate the heat) - but this time of year is my favorite. It is almost like hunting - searching for shad. I mainly focused on secondary points, and looking for balls of shad on the sonar. On my second point I pulled up on, there was a pretty large ball of shad, so I backed off and started fishing. Had about 20 fish in a little more than an hour. Only a couple of keepers, one being about 3 pounds - but it was a blast. The funny thing is I couldn't get bit at first on shad pattern - crankbaits, spinner baits, even tossed the spoon out there. Once I started dragging a jig and carolina rig under the bait, I was getting hammered on almost every cast. I caught them on this one point like this for a while from 3 feet down to 15 feet.
The jet skis were still out, and so were the pleasure boats racing up and down the bay - but I bet it won't be long before they store those for the winter. As far as being comfortable (weather), relaxing, and enjoying fishing - Fall down here is my favorite season
