    flipping questions

I've read 15-25lb test, depending on how tough the cover is. Is mono, braid, or flouro better (braid seems right for heavy cover, but I have trouble seeing braid)? Also, heavy rods would hoist a hawg out faster, but wouldn't it be more likely to break than a rod with more give? Last, if I'll be throwing up into thick blowdowns, is it important to use a TX-rigged worm with the tip buried (to be as weedless as possible)? How many more snags will I get if I tie on a jig & trailer?

    Re: flipping questions

I fish 30lb big game, the mono works better for me, I tried brad once and never again, flipped into a willow bush and the braid wrapped around a branch and it was far enough back in the bush that I could not get to it, I tried to break it and the braid berried in the spool and broke, could not find the tag end and had to cut it all off, manOman!! the mono would have probably shook off. I don't have much luck with flipping jigs, some guys won't flip anything else, I Texas rig most anything plastic, if I flip worms I won't use a big curly tail for it wraps around limes also, JMO hope some of this helps

    Re: flipping questions

I like 7ft loomis med heavy for my flipping and pitching. The tip action enables me to be accurate and it let's me work my bait better than a broom stick rod.
I use 17-20 bps excel mono and have never had a problem at all. Braid is too noisy and if you have to break off braid could be next to impossible to break if it's 50 pound or bigger.
If I'm flipping a jig in thick blowdowns I'm very careful with the feel of my bait and the placement of it in the blowdown. I would rather place my boat in a good spot to enable me to get the flip I want than just toss it in the area. I watch my line also since it can be laying across a branch or twig that might move if a fish grabs the jig and slowely pulls down on it or moves away. I use more plastic and pegged tungsten while flipping than anything. I think it slides easier and is more snag proof but you have too be so careful of using the rod tip to shake a bait loose from a potential snag as opposed to just jerking it and sinking the hook in some wood.
Of course if I'm using heavy weighted baits then I use my heavy action rods since I get the feel I'm after as the bait is matched properly with the rod.
