Re: EPA At it AGAIN!! This time with Ethanol!

Ky. does not require ethanol labels on the pumps like other states do. Here on L Cumb most if not all marinas have ethanol free marine fuel at 89 octane the 93 octane will have it. Yes you will pay alot more for fuel on the water and I myself use the blue Stabil to fight the ethanol when using land based fuel as I have no way to know what is in it.

i really dont see the difference. ive had or rebuilt about every type of motor ive ever seen, and cant see much difference other than that stuff breaks down fuel lines

I'm no mechanic, but all you have to is read what Mercury, Yamaha, and Evinrude says. More than 10%, and our outboards will break down. They have been saying that forever.

Re: EPA At it AGAIN!! This time with Ethanol!

This is true. Ethanol over 10% voids warrenty and is not to be used in outboards. This is why the EPA delayed decision on a 20% mix. The lobby group has offered a compromize of 15%. EPA asked for more research on affects on motors. From what I understand the mix over 10% will be clearly labled. 10% mix is currenty labled with just a statement "contains ethanol".

I sent my comments that 10% ethanol needs to be redily available and mixes over 10% need to be clearly labled. That a decision should not be made without clear evidence the fuel will not harm engines.

If the ethanol producers want to sell more ethanol, perhaps they could help us convert motors to safely use thier fuel.

They are pushing hard on the issue. The TV commercials from "Poet" are PR spots for ethalol producers. I'm sure you all have seen them, they comment on Saudi oil, job outsourcing overseas and end with I'm a full time poet.

Which 10% is already allowed, but I'm sure everyone who owns an outboard knows that ethanol can ruin an outboard engine. Re: EPA At it AGAIN!! This time with Ethanol!

The reason for not labling gas is and it has been proven Ky. is a dumping ground for bad gas remember when they put all that ether in our gas 20 years ago and it smelled like poo alot of cars went down because of it. It was eating out gas lines and rubber seals causing some real bad leaks.

Like some one said alchol will eat every rubber seal and gas line it comes in contact with it does not give you more horse power.. I have been a macanic for years and i have been around race cars since i was a little boy here is what you would need to do to get the same performance as gas You would need to raise your compresion 8.75:1 to 10:1 change out your fuel lines change your injectors to alchol compatable ones and raise the cc output of the injector by 20 to 40% change you intake gaskets change your fuel pump change you O2 sensers alchol burns much cooler and slower then gas....
When you use alcohol in your boat engine it will run so lean it will melt the pistons out of it. Oh yah almost forgot you should also change your coils and sparkplugs the ignition in most cars and trucks do not have a hot enough to spark to ignite acohol fuel efficiently. Now we need to reprogram the the computer so we can change the ignition timming got to keep that spark knock to a minumum..
Now i know some one is going to say i have run it in my car/truck before and it didnt hurt anything and all i can say to that is try running about 4 full tanks of e85 and come back here tell us all about it trust me you dont want to do this..

Re: EPA At it AGAIN!! This time with Ethanol!

The Environmental Protection Agency is expected to announce a decision soon on whether to boost ethanol in the nation's gasoline supply from the current 10 percent to 15 percent. The EPA's decision on E10 versus E15 could come within days, amid protest from the marine industry.

The EPA's decision on E10 versus E15 could come within days, and a national boating organization and many local boat retailers are not supporting it.

"We are very aware of the effects of ethanol fuel. Just the current 10 percent is wreaking havoc on the boat motors," said Tricia Gurr, co-owner of Marine Supply-The Boating Center in Winter Haven. "We service and sell non-ethanol gas at our 717 Sixth St., S.W., location. We recommend 100 percent non-ethanol fuel."

"We do so much more repairs on engines due to this ethanol problem.
