I see them every fall or late summer. They are a type of gnat, they are not termites. Termite workers will fly in the spring to form other colonies but do not do this any other time usually. Not to worry what you are seeing is quite harmless.

    Re: Insects flyin' around

Well, having been born and raised a bit further to the south I might can help with this topic. Termites begin to swarm January-February and it can last until June. Most people mistakenly call them "flying ants." They are a dark brownish color. I have seen them swarming and cover the neighbors car and, at other times, the screens on her house. She had monthly termite treatments to the house and they were not swarming from there but from the woods across the road. They appeared to have stopped either to gather the colony together or to rest. After about 45 minutes they all left at the same time.

I was outside last week and the guy who takes care of my yard was mowing the grass. It looked like millions of little white gnats were coming up out of the grass. The sparrows and starlings were gorging themselves on them and I wouldn't be surprised if I didn't have a few with my cup of coffee. They are harmless and, as far as I know, they don't sting or bite.

I had a termite swarm several years ago. The neighbor had the same thing at the same time so we hired a local bug kill operation. They used Termidor around my house applied into a trench they dug plus drilled the concrete in areas to keep the border around my house complete. Worked great!

Cigar smoke doesn't seem to phase them...I'll just be glad when they're gone.

I thought I would offer this funny bit of termite information. It takes one female flirting with one male to set off an entire swarm. That sounds somewhat like a busy "barfly" doesn't it. LOL

Thanks, I'm going to try and enjoy this game. Last weekend almost gave me a nervous breakdown and Tebow may try to finish me off. lol

Gosh, you won't believe what I am looking at. A huge buck is standing in my back yard eating chestnuts and the cat is going crazy to go outside where he is. That is one beautiful creature.

It is so okay to sample the food, as long as you have your condiments with you.
