lol that's just battle wounds....you have to earn those![]()
Nice one Dustin, thanks again for the bait, didnt have any luck at all down at Dale Hollow last weekend
have caught channels and flat heads on several crank baits, they love trolled hot n tots.
Never thought about using my own hand for bait. Sure looks like you have the proper size, color and retrieve because that cat flat inhaled it. They say the bigger the bait the bigger the fish so next time try trolling your LEG and see what you catch.
I have caught many channel cats on the river in riffles using shad imitating crankbaits. As a matter of fact, I caught a 35# flathead on a 1 ounce roostertail fishing for hybrids a few years ago in less than 4' of water. Had the KDFW shock sample 2 ponds on friday and Crosby from the KDFW said cats are the primary predator in any body of water they inhabit.
Yeah, I might want to think about a glove next time....my girlfriend wasn't too happy with how incredibly smooth my hands were after thatMakes it hard to imagine how some guys noodle for those monsters. It's a wonder they ever make it back to the surface after grabbing onto some that are twice the size of that one.
Nice one. I have caught several cats on cranks while fishing the river, and caught a big flathead on Ky while ledge fishing with a series six, also have caught them on jigs, caught several chanels when I fished Santee Cooper a couple years ago on shaky head, but the oddest was I caught a channel that was close to 7 lbs on a buzz bait on a strip pit in Ohio co, you could see him come after it and the he blasted it like a bass. That was cool![]()
Ahh - the rare catfish on surface bite. I have only seen it a couple of times both on surface jerk type lures. A channel on a buzzer is a rare event indeed.
Channels on cranks is pretty common especially in their pre-spawn late-May into June. One of my favorite catfish artificial bites is on the Ohio using rooster tails and ultra-light tackle below the dam. With the gates closed they will come up cruising on the apron at night so shallow you can see them move. Put a rooster tail in front of them and they will strip a bunch of line off of your noodle rig! Not huge but 3 to 6 pounds are the norm and a blast on 4 lb stuff...
actually, i catch channels on topwater several times a year. i caught a 5 lber flipping a stump yesterday. they wont leave my bass stuff aloneAhh - the rare catfish on surface bite. I have only seen it a couple of times both on surface jerk type lures. A channel on a buzzer is a rare event indeed.
