    Re: tournaments

I would take a look at the Tournament board here on the site. Find one on the lake you want and go get em.

    Re: tournaments

You also might want to took at the KBFN they have a non-boater category you can enter where you just show up and get paired up with a guy and you fish out of the back of the boat...It's a great learning experience. It will help you become a better fisherman and will also help you understand the basic layout of a tournament and how they work....I was a non boater for three years now next year I am moving up to the boater's side. It's been a great expereince I feel like I've increased my fishing knowledge and abilities by 1000% since I started with the KBFN. Great group of guys too!

I assumed you did, I do as well but it is easier if you've never fished a tournament before to learn the ropes as a non-boater.

I did it that way, and pretty much all my buddies did too, I used my boat to find a lure they would hit regularly and come tourney time I wasn't let down.

start small in an open club tournament with a low entry fee. see if you can build your experience to where you can catch fish in any conditions. when you have confidence move up. know and obey the rules.

    Re: tournaments

Questions i have to ask: 1st do you have a boat or are you looking to be a non boater? 2nd do you get addicted to the spirit of competition while having a blast? Then don't do it - it is ver addictive lol

Your best bet is a small club for more of a fellowship type get together, if you are wanting more hard core then look at the BFL's as a co-angler for a year or two to get your feet wet and you will also learn a ton. If you are at the lake and see a club fishing or weighing in (usually around 2 or 3pm) ask one of them and they will be happy to assist. Buddy tournaments are a fun way to go too you and a buddy fish together splitting expenses and having a blast (note a good partner is very hard to find so be warned)

    Re: tournaments

Depends on what you want to do. If you want to fish a team tourney, which is most common, find someone with some experience willing to partner up with you and learn that way. That's how I learned and probably most did as well. Another way is to go as a non boater as someone else suggested. FLW has a BFL division on Cumberland that has this format. You draw out with a boater at random and fish with them that tourney. I bass fished and tourney fished off and on for about 10 years. The last 2 years I fished BFL on Ky/Barkley and learned more about those lakes in the 1st year alone than I did on my own. I think either approach will work just fine. Most of the rules are common sense, nothing complicated no matter what you fish, and are listed on tourney flyers. Just start small and have fun with it, don't get discouraged if you aren't an overnight success. I still pretty much s**k, but even a blind squirrel finds an acorn evrery now and then.
