Need help on KY!!!

i have only fished ky like 3 times. this is my first time fishing it this time of year. I fished it today and need less to say i struggled. I fished the lbl side from kdv down about 5 or 6 miles. I threw just about everything at them today. I did manage to catch 1 keeper that would have went around 5 pounds. but that was it. any help would be appreciated.

Go to the backs of the bays in 2 to 5 feet of water and chunk a trap or spinnerbait. If that don't work go out into deeper water in the bays and use your depth finder to locate schools of shad. Take a spoon or trap and cast it out past the bait and let it sink to the bottom. Rip it up and down back to the boat.

Carolina Rig the ledges or secondary points. Might even find them on the lead in channel banks. I prefer 6" lizards for bait. They should be on the move to shallow water with this cool down. I leaving here next Friday for 10 days of fun bass fishing on the big lake.

I'll tell ya I live on the Big Lake and it is tough even for a local, all the spots that should be holding seem like they aren't. Best bet is make sure you have plenty of fuel and don't be afraid to leave when a spot isn't producing and don't fall victim of trying to force feed these fish. I can tell you there have been reports of shallow fish and heard of the biggest being 6+ lbs and was coughing up 3-4" shad, but that was the only keeper they caught all day!

These fish are scattered to say the least and we need another week or two for the fall bite to get into full swing. I haven't been able to nail down a solid pattern in a week and I've been trying - but it is hard when you catch 1-fish 20+ft deep and not another until your in 18"???? Busting fish is far in between with the wind blowing so I've tried fishing fast and dead slow. So the best thing I can give you is run and gun and don't get discouraged when you hit a dry spell keep your nose down and grind it out and you'll be okay. My best bites have been on a shakey head (allot of guys hate it but it is putting fish in the boat) and a spinnerbait in blue glimmer.

Fish are in transition and makes finding a consistent pattern almost impossible. You will find fish from the ledges out deep to the very back of the bays in 2 foot of water. This means you will catch them on anything and everything. Get the water temps below 70 for a bit and the fish will be more consistent to pattern for they will mostly be shallow with the feedbags on getting ready for winter. Until them it will be hit or miss using all kinds of baits and tactics. Take about 6 rods and rig up spinnerbait, shallow crankbait, deeper crankbait, shaky head, C Rig Creature bait and T Rig creature bait and plan on switching quite often between rods and depths.

Just got off the lake. Tuff. Everyone is struggeling and in a panic practicing for tournaments. Shad are thick in the back of coves and small er bass. Nothing of any size and difficult to get a strike.

I would concentrate on these coves with shad... just simply start really shallow and work yoru way out and down... they may be laggin behind a bit, but the Bass are following those shad...
