Yep. And when you go and try it....ohhhh please tell us when and where. I need a good laugh.
Now lets be nice yall. FNF seems to be the way most folks go to in the winter time on the holler. new to the board but have spent my fair share of freezing cold days out there waiting for the tug of the brown fish. would love to learn to fish it cause i have tried and not sure i am doing thing right. yall laugh but its hard to get away from live bait when it will stay alive in the cold water.
Hey ForLife
I saw where you said that you were fishing live bait at the Hollow....I was planning on going down the weekend of the 21st. I am going to take a bunch of creek minnows. Any tips on where to fish them? Depth---bobber---dead line---grass----bluffs----humps---points??? Going down out of Cincinnati
Watched a show not to long ago that had Rick Clunn fishing for smallies on Dale in late November. he was catchin em by slowly draggin a jig'n'pig down steep banks in the coves... might give this a try this year.
Thanks.....I was considering fishing the bluffs....will have to give the jig a try
Would anyone be kind enough to explain this Float n Fly technique to me please? Sure would love to see what a Smallmouth Bass feels like on the end of my line.
Not that my way is perfect or the correct way. Feel free to explain a better way if u have it. I use an 8 ft. Spinning outfit. Spool that with braid. Tie the braid to a 3 way swivel. tie 8 to 10 ft of 6 lb fluorocarbon to another part of the swivel. Tie the end to ur fly. Clip a fnf bobber to the last side of the swivel. When casting allow the fly to touch the water on ur backcast. I use the fnf in 45 or less degree water. Change up ur retrieves. Deadsticking works best in my opinion.
Noticed i said you guys getting ready for the fnf. i am die hard live bait over there and have even caught a few nice ones on crankbaits at the beginning of winter.
Went last sunday and took my father and my 7 yr old son . i just wanted them to hav fun and catch some smallies so i stopped at dale hollow 1stop and got 3 dozen shiners for them to fish with. i went straight to my ole faithfull grass bed and my son caught the first one a 19 inch smallie and my dad 15 mins later got a 16 incher. i had to grab my sons life jacket to keep him in the boat because the smallie almost pulled him in. all i done that day was run the trolling motor and enjoyed those two having a blast. take people fishing that dont get to go that much and dont worry bout u catching fish, just enjoy the people u care about enjoying doing something that so many of us on here have a passion for and that is catching those beatiful bass.
that there is what its all about!
