Needing some advice on finding a lost rod...

2 weeks ago was fishing around Jameston on Cland striper fishing and I laied one of my rods on top of my t-top to fish with another. A friend of mine in the boat went to cast and snagged it off the top and chucked it in the water about 8-10 ft out. It was a Loomis GLX rod with a Calais reel on it. I said oh "you know" and one of the other guys swated their lure at it in the water and snagged the upper eyelet on first try and pulled it out. Rod was in the water about 2 seconds then back in the boat, that's about as close as I want to come to losing one, but too close for me.
That would have been a less than cheap donation in 80' of water.

Side note, the Carbonlite rod and reel combo from BassPro will float like a bobber. Nice little setup too. I freak out my buddies sometime and act like I'm mad and just throw it in. It doesn't even go under it floats so good.

We knocked one overboard at T'sville a few years back and we took the biggest treble hook we had and a 4 oz weight in front of it and drug it on the bottom till we hung it. The treble hook was huge though. If you decide to dive for it be sure you have a buddy with you and use some safety precautions. It's not that valuable.

I used the below setup to get my rod and reel back at the dam on barren river. Take a metal level (like the ones carpenters use), where the holes are at in it, tie on diffrent lenghts of nylon string. On the nylon string tie a couple of those 1oz weights on each string and let the large style trebble hook follow behind the weight about 3-4 inches. On the level tie down any semi heavy peice of metal to it. (i used a lead rod that was suppose to be used in throwing horse shoes). tie each end of the level so that when you drop it in the water it wont run sideways. Now when you troll an area you can cover 3ft at a time.
