    Catfish Bait

I've heard a lot of talk about different kinds of catfish baits, and everyone has their own opinion as to what works best, I have tried just about everything excluding skipjacks. I've heard/read that skippies are a great bait. With that said, how do I go about locating them? Where do they like to hang out, what are the best baits to use, are they better to use as cut bait or live, etc... any information would be greatly appreciated!

I can't believe no one has responded to you on this. But i will do my best. I use Skippies for bait a lot. The best way i get them is to go fish behind dams on the rivers. I use 2 small curly tail grubs in white and they are 2" grubs and i use 1/16th oz heads. I tie the grubs about a foot apart. then early and late you can usually not fish it too fast for skippies but sometimes late in the morning and mid day i let the grubs sink some. I like to use them as cut bait for catfish. I just went and caught a bunch at Markland Dam this past Sat. Good luck.

That pretty much sums it up, I was using 3 and 4 jigs for extra weight Fri. down side to that is they tangle easy.I prefer white, chart. or the white and red head grubs.Got a triple which is pretty tough, do to the jumpin action of those critters. I personally use them whole and the bigger the better. The cat i caught Fri. was on one 12 to 13 in. (pic on the photo board). The only bait I would prefer over a skip is a mooneye, reason being they stay alive alot longer...skips are dead by the time they hit the bottom of the bucket...good luck Chuck
