    my old man.

My dad has been my fishing partner my whole 40 years on earth.. ( ok really 35, I was 5 my first trip to Cumberland River in Whitley co. bushlining for some cats) He has missed most of this year due to a hip replacement, then an infection in the hip, now removal of the hip to fight infection again. It has been a long summer for him as elnuts could probably understand like no one else on here. he's had a pick line twice, daily trips to Louisville from Lebanon Jct to get IV treatments for MRSA ( twice now too). He has really been down, zero trips to the lake this year, couldnt help me finish his shed, I moved and he wasnt able to help so i had been hearing about "how worthless I am now" " might as well shoot me I cant do nothing" that kind of nonsense. I ahve been pretty mad at him and really let him have a few weeks ago. He has turned into the fighter I knew he was, fromwheelchair to walker to crutches with no hip. I am proud to say that we will begoing fishing thursday morning not for sure where , wont be very long but he will be in the boat, he will catch a dink or two and swear they are 4 lbers.... and Ill be so happy to have him back lying again. I wanted to let you guys kno how blessed I am.

One thing to understand when your sick that most people don't understand: It stinks when you see other people doing and going on with their normal lives around you and your body lets you down time and time again. It is no fun when you can't do what you normally do. When you would normally go fishing and your body won't let you but your mind wants too is a terrible feeling. I know it too well first hand. Heres to your Dad catching the first, biggest and most fish in the boat.

Dale I hope you and your dad have a great day. I went through something similar with my grandfather when I was a teenager. It was hard to get my grandfather who was a wheelchair bound 6'4" 260lb man into a 12 foot OldTown canoe nut, once I did it was well worth it. He taught my to fish at an early age in the little brooks of northern Maine. When he became wheel chair bound it was very hard on him because the water that he loved to fish was not easily accessible but, with that old conoe we got there. Patience and understanding was the best medicine to get him back on the water.

    Re: my old man.

me too Woody. I went out to change batteries today ( I keep my boat in his garage) and when I got there he was outside with his walker using a leaf blower, I asked him about the crutches, all he said was and I quote " you ever tried to use one of these things with crutches... thought so" I got a kick out of it. We had planned on taking the minnow ( my 14ft alum boat) out but he wants to go to T-ville so there we will be in the morning. One thing you will get a kick out of is we cant go early like normal as he put it " uhhh, i have to take care of the bathroom bidness before we go, I cant climb out fast enough if it hits at the lake" Going to be fun. If out at T-ville ,we'll be in a silver and maroon procraft putting somewhere around the trace area, stop by and yell.

Sound like your dad is right behind Elnut on my true grit list. I love hearing stories about old crusty men that just won't quit. DC enjoy him while you got him and pat yourself on the back for taking him fishing he deserves it.
