FRANKFORT, Ky. – A recent land trade involving 1,530 acres at Peabody Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Ohio County gives anglers access to 10 lakes, includes wetland habitat for waterfowl and helps simplify the area’s boundary lines.
The acre-for-acre land trade completed in September provides the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources with property that is primarily forested, with excellent deer and turkey hunting opportunities. The trade, which involved the Ken Unit of Peabody, opens new frontage along the Green River to the public, encompasses all of Ken Lake and the Boy Scout Lakes for public use and includes a net gain of 190 acres of water. The trade includes an agreement to raise the water level of Ken Lake and improve its habitat for fish.
The property realignment also simplifies boundaries and eliminates partial ownership of several lakes, which can resolve issues involving trespass. New gates and signage for the area are now in place.
