Green River Lake Musky

I'm going to GRL Nov.10th and give musky fishing a try.Never really been before,missed one fishing in Lake of the Woods in Canada while fishing for pike but that's my only experience with them.I have many questions..#1.What baits should I use?#2.Do you use leaders?#3.Where are the musky at in the Fall?Are they on the main lake or in the creek arms?#4.What color lures work best.ANY help will be greatly appreciated,Thanks,Darealbigcatman

This is all guessin from me as i have never actually fished for em, but from readin posts from those who do...

Throw anything you would usually fish for bass with, especially white spinner baits. Fish em around weedy or grass flats. And use a wire leader for sure.. they are toothy critters...

Likewise i have never fished for them but have seen them caught by accident while fishing for bass with a crankbait at green river. My neighbor went there a few yrs ago in october fishing for musky. Caught one 30 incher and one 42 incher in 3 weekends of fishing for them. This is what i remember him telling me about rigging. 6 1/2 to 7 foot rod,20 lb test line with a one foot steel leader at end. Fished with deep diving crankbaits in craw colors aginst deep rock walls. He caught a 5 lb smallmouth at green while fishing for musky this way. I want to go to cave run for musky just have never got around to it. Good luck,hope ya catch a big one ! Later jc

Use braided line like proline or spiderwire. I use 50lb spider wire. Go to one of the many creeks that feed the lake and fish structure. Cast, cast, cast and cast some more.

Dont forget a fire tiger crank bait, the suiks, and swim whizz baits work well also, but need a little stouter casting tackle. Never had any luck with a buck tail, but did have a follow up on a one oz. white and chartresus spinner bait.Those real big rapalas also are worth a look.

Launched at lone valley, water temp about 62. they are still drawing the lake down. turned one good fish over in quarry creek, and my trolling motor battery gave up yjr ghost. Fought the wind with almost no power.Always something lately.

1. Crankbaits and jerkbaits

2. Absolutely. Do not fish for muskies without a leader. Wire or flouro, it's personal preference.

3. Timber, flats, channel breaks.... Anywhere there are concentrations of shad.

4. More natural (shad, minnow) patterns for clearer water, brighter (firetiger, etc) in dirtier water.

Water is fairly dirty due to the turnover....but those toothy critters will eat anything that runs by their head...caught one bass fishing last weekend in the very back of a big pocket....i'd say you can go in any of the creeks and catch em pretty well right now....
